Responsible for building strong consultative relationships between Utility Operations Safety and OpCo Supervisors, Operations Coordinators (OC), Utility Foremen, Safety Specialists, and front line employees. Requires strong working relationships with operations and construction groups to assist in overall job planning, developing specific safety scope and job plans, and overseeing safe execution of construction plans.
Oversees and coordinates capital construction and repair activities through a matrixed organizational oversight view.
Consults, coaches, and mentors Supervisors, OCs, Utility Foremen and safety specialists in safe execution of tasks with heavy emphasis on risk mitigation, team building, execution of safe work rules and procedures, team make-up and skillset evaluation, and equipment deployment for cost savings and risk reduction.
This position will serve to impact and influence decision making of all leaders and work groups noted above that includes job shadowing Supervisors to asses and improve influence, actively observing and coaching construction crews on the job site with emphasis on capital projects, and deploying “one voice protocol” for communications of safety procedures and changes.
The incumbent is responsible for reporting findings, corrective actions to utility operations leadership for trending to impact cultural change and improvements throughout assigned areas of the Utility organization.
Minimum education required of the position
Degree preferred but not required
Minimum experience required of the position
5-7 years of line supervisory or equivalent experience. Extensive knowledge of safe work rules and applications.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
Distribution line (or gas) construction, operations and maintenance knowledge. Strong leadership, negotiations and communication skills. Working knowledge of internal and external safety rules, practices, standards and procedures. Computer skills with a working knowledge of Distribution and Safety Applications. Knowledge of distribution line materials and environmental processes. Ability to understand current bargaining contracts. The ability to travel primarily across the region with 20-25% overnight travel.
