Position Summary

This position will serve as a Senior Return to Work Consultant. This position will work closely with other Return to Work Consultants and will report directly to the Integrated Disability Management Supervisor. The Senior Return to Work Consultant is responsible for identifying placement opportunities for employees who are off work from their base job classifications due to both industrial and non-industrial medical limitations/restrictions, in compliance with all Company policies, procedures, Long-Term Disability Plan (LTD), collective bargaining agreements and applicable State and Federal Laws. All employees are responsible for performing their jobs in accordance with PG&E’s vision and values.

Job Responsibilities

Internal Job Placement Consulting and Assistance: Provides consulting assistance, advice and notification of requirement to participate in the appropriate return-to-work program to employees, supervisors, union business representatives and Human Resources (HR) professionals; researches employment history, reviews and interprets medical information, investigates and identifies issues and recommends actions and/or interventions related to the process and in compliance with state and federal laws, regulations and company programs; determines job classifications an employee may be capable of performing; prepares paperwork to send job requirements descriptions for identified classifications to the employees’ physicians and/or schedules a medical consultation to determine one’s ability to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Under Americans with Disabilities Act /Federal Employment and Housing Administration (ADA/FEHA) legal framework, determines job placement options in consultation with the employee, supervisor and HR; verifies wages and computes wage adjustments; negotiates letters of agreement with unions’ business representatives. Acts as expert witness for various legal proceedings.

Documentation of Activities and Research: Prepares employee files and records all conversations in writing; takes handwritten notes during meetings and to document phone calls; prepares and reads reports and correspondence; accesses Web sites to conduct research; enters and tabulates data as needed.

Communication: Communicates with co-workers, ill or injured workers, internal clients, vendors, state government or agency representatives, attorneys and medical providers.

Other: May work alone or with others on special projects that are assigned. May be involved in training initiatives. May assist on other work activities in the Integrated Disability Management organization as required.



  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma

  • 6 Years of relevant work experience


  • Advanced knowledge of state and federal leave and disability laws (FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA, FEHA, FLSA, ADAAA)

  • Comfortable with relevant IRS, DOL, ERISA, ADA and other state and federal laws and regulations and company programs.

  • Ability to apply relevant bargaining unit contract provisions

  • Detailed knowledge of all operational and administrative processes including ability to document activities for training purposes.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite Application, Adobe Acrobat, Visio

  • Prior SAP experience preferred
