Job Summary

Oversee Damage Prevention company-wide strategy, Public Awareness, 811 Ticket Management and Screening, and Damage Recovery

Achieve Industry Leading Safety Culture and Performance

Establish priorities and develop programs to implement value-added damage prevention, screening and recovery

Establish operating responsibilities/expectations for the technical staff, and implements initiatives that ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory agency requirements

Drives industry efforts to enhance damage prevention best practices

Establish and manage Operations budgets to meet strategic objectives

Fosters the necessary environment to achieve top-tier customer satisfaction and brand perception

Supports the development and enhancement of industry leading risk modeling capabilities for damage prevention efforts

Leads the innovative strategies associated with public awareness for NiSource

Essential Functions

  • Create an environment that encourages disclosure, engagement of others and mutual accountability for safety

  • Leads and directs cross functional teams to develop and continuously evaluate high value damage prevention strategies across the NiSource footprint

  • Provides strong leadership for the establishment of meaningful and actionable performance measurements required to monitor and track damage prevention performance

  • Establish and manage implementation plans for objectives and goals related to routing and screening of state one call tickets, the investigation, billing and recovery of facility damages, records enhancement of NiSource’s facility asset location and attribution records

  • Serves as an internal and external industry expert on damage prevention and public awareness efforts

  • Champions industry engagement, including but not limited to peer reviews, technical papers, and industry lessons learned sharing

  • Responsible for direction of the Public Safety Awareness and overall Public Awareness RP1162 Compliance including enhanced public awareness programs and activities and RP1185 guidance and stakeholder engagement

  • Provides direction and execution of our Core Four Responsibilities, where all employees• follow processes and procedures,• identify and report risks,• continually improve processes and procedures and• identify and proactively

  • Asks for input, initiating conversations about risk and encouraging use of the Corrective Action Program

  • Hosts routine touchpoints such as daily or weekly huddles for discussion and information-sharing

  • Discusses new information, checking for understanding and reinforcing until habits form

  • Leads conversations after sharing information, soliciting feedback and inviting questions and concerns

  • Leads diverse team of qualified individuals with authority to hire, terminate, promote, demote, coach, develop and performance manage.

Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in strategy, planning, operations, finance, legal, regulatory or related functional area

  • Broad experience in business case development on strategic work along with evaluation of impact analysis post implementation

  • Experience with building organizational talent and structure for operations and strategy development

  • Attention to detail and timing is a must

  • Proven to deliver and develop on basic financial acumen

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated strategic analytical thinking and skills

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Knowledge of how to analyze business problems

  • Self-directed

  • Ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization

  • Strong business and/or financial acumen

  • Advanced proficiency in MS-Office, especially PowerPoint and Excel

  • Knowledge of Utility Operations (i.e. gas, electric, construction, engineering)

  • Knowledge of the damage prevention process (i.e. one call and safe digging laws)

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Advanced degree in Business Administration, Finance, Operations Management, Information Systems or equivalent work experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Graduate from a four year ABET accredited program with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or four year ABET accredited program with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology

  • Six Sigma certificationUpon Hire

Salary Range*:

$155,400.00 - $233,100.00

*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience , as well as internal pay equity .
