Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Insurance & Risk Administrator located at Columbus General Office in Columbus , Nebraska. Position closes May 17 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

This position will report to the Manager of Enterprise Risk.

Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for the development, implementation, recommendation, reporting, and maintenance of the insurance portfolio for all District assets (nuclear and non-nuclear) including coordination within the District to ensure cost effective, accurate and timely application and insurance coverage renewals. Incumbent is responsible for processing and negotiating claims on behalf of the District in conjunction with the Manager of Enterprise Risk and the District’s contracted claims administrators. The incumbent acts as the intermediary between the District and the insurance industry to remain current on industry trends and events and is responsible for analyzing and recommending to management potential changes and impacts to the District insurance portfolio which could include emergency insurance requirements. This position supports claim and policy coverage questions on the District’s Worker’s Compensation program. This position is responsible for ensuring required certificates of insurance are received, approved and entered into the tracking system.

This position reports to and is responsible for supporting the Manager of Enterprise Risk in the identification, assessment, monitoring, managing, and reporting on corporate risks and their potential impact to the District in alignment with the District’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program and risk management policies.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Insurance or related field is required. Emphasis in property casualty insurance, or finance is preferred.

Eight (8) years of general business experience is preferred. Five years of experience in property casualty insurance or insurance risk management programs as a program manager, or underwriter or in claims administration is preferred.

Insurance experience within an electric utility is highly desireable.

Fluent in MS products, specifically MS excel and PowerPoint, adobe experience preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Preferred Certifications:

Associate in Risk Management (ARM)

Risk and Insurance Society – Certified Risk Management Professional (RIMS-CRMP)

Certified Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)

Designated certifications may become a requirement within a reasonable amount of time based on business needs and incumbent experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Act as a consultant, resource, and subject matter expert to the District on insurance, contractual risk management, and claims management. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the District’s business to identify insurance risk exposures and develop recommendations and solutions. Prepare communications and reports to inform management and the organization on the insurance portfolio. Perform periodic insurance exposure analysis of policy and coverage analysis, including retention levels, limits of coverage, perils insureds, and general terms and conditions, recommendations, and procurement.

Maintain supervision of broker and other service provider performance and recommend changes. Serve as the point of contact between insurance carriers and the District. Use insurance industry knowledge to negotiate optimal coverages at reasonable cost. Provide presentations or support of insurance and risk topics to various audiences.

Build relationships across multi-functional teams in the District and share insurance industry knowledge within the District. Remain current on industry standards and trends in insurance and claims. Participate in power industry associations and organizations to increase industry knowledge and contacts.

Support the ERM function through assistance of maintaining the platform and assisting with risk assessments as directed by the Manager of Enterprise Risk.

Review and negotiate insurance contracts and indemnification agreements. Review and investigate all insurance claims and develop proposal for adjustment, negotiation, and settlement. Responsible for the providing input on the planning and budgeting process for the District's insurance programs. Analyze and report significant insurance issues and recommend changes as appropriate.

Support and collaborate with the Procurement and Legal Departments regarding the procurement process (surety bond approvals, contractual insurance requirements, risk transfer, indemnification and general terms and conditions in procurement documents).

Responsible for ensuring required certificates of insurance are received, approved and entered into the tracking system.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade - 16 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $10,197.00 - $13,002.00

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Telecommuting: Telecommuting arrangement available following initital training period and satisfactory performance levels.
