Water Conservation Specialist
This is considered a “special” position, which means the person hired will assist with a project for a limited or defined period typically not to exceed twenty-four (24) months.
Colorado Springs Utilities is looking for a passionate water conservationist with a successful background in water use benchmarking, commercial indoor water use efficiency and community/customer engagement. The position will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing plans and programs that support the organization’s conservation and demand-side management goals.
In this position, you will be responsible for:
Influencing water demands through design and implementation of a comprehensive suite of cost-effective efficiency programs
Helping develop a program that incentivizes business customers to install high-efficiency mechanical equipment and plumbing fixtures to maximize the beneficial use of water
Performing basic indoor water evaluations for commercial customers
Understanding how different, target industries use water and communicate appropriate tactics to help them save
Achieving water efficiency goals through ongoing evaluation and benchmarking of commercial water use
Inform Utilities understanding of underlying factors driving water demand trends
Identifying outliers in target industries: meet with, perform water use evaluations and recommend appropriate water efficiency measures
Distributing efficient low-cost fixtures for installation in commercial kitchens
Purchasing and distributing high-efficiency toilets and aerators via low-income housing programs and partnerships
Providing water use efficiency expertise via presentations, meetings, partnerships with an end goal of leading the discussion in the community and throughout the industry in Colorado
Assisting visitors to the Conservation and Environmental Center with indoor water use efficiency inquiries.
Supporting our Integrated Water Resource Plan and our Water Use Efficiency Plan goals
As the Water Conservation Specialist, in the Water Resources and Demand Management Department you will have knowledge of:
Conservation principles and water efficiency concepts
Water utility industry regulations and trends
Techniques for estimating energy and water savings potential
Measurement and verification techniques
Environmental and regulatory issues
System profile data (i.e., supply, demand, benchmark, forecast)
Managing highly visible programs
Researching and analyzing technical reports
Public outreach concepts and methods; interacting with the public
Customer service principles and practices
Managing multiple programs and priorities

What will it take to be successful in this position? The ideal candidate will come with a Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Natural Sciences, Geography, or Environmental Studies with four or more years s of transferable experience in water conservation, demand-side management program development, and management.
