Vac Truck Operator - Heavy Equipment Operator

Gas Construction Operations & Maintenance’s Condition Assessment and Corrosion Cathodic Protection crew is looking for a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team.

As a Vac Truck operator at Colorado Springs Utilities, you will be rewarded with challenging work in the areas of construction, maintenance, condition assessment, and corrosion cathodic protection programs. You will operate the latest equipment to assist with gas construction and maintenance projects, gather equipment and parts to complete daily tasks while working with a team that is committed to maintaining the highest levels of safety awareness.

In this job, you will be responsible for:

  • Operation of various equipment to include but not limited to, Hydro-Excavation Trucks/Trailers, track-hoes, backhoes, overhead cranes, wheel loaders, etc.

  • Obtaining and Maintaining Operator Qualification Certification

  • Transporting equipment to the job site

  • Assisting in project planning and setting up job sites

  • Assisting in training other operators

  • Coordinating major construction projects

  • Performing skilled activities in repairing utility distribution systems

  • Assisting customers with questions and providing information

  • Inspecting equipment, performing preventative maintenance on equipment, and scheduling major repairs

  • Participating in emergency call outs

  • Operation of Class A and B vehicles

  • Assisting the Gas, Water, Wastewater, and Electric crews in the construction and maintenance of Utilities distribution or collection systems, working in and near high volume traffic areas

Who you are…

  • Qualified candidates will offer two or more years of experience in the skilled operation of heavy equipment; Hydro-excavation experience is preferred.

  • A valid Class A CDL license is required.

  • The successful candidate must be available to work overtime when needed and will be subject to after-hours call-out and/or standby time.
