Utility Locator – Hourly Position

Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking to fill entry level Utility Locator Hourly job. This excellent position will enable the selected candidate to work as part of a highly skilled team while eventually serving our customers in an autonomous capacity. The selected candidate will perform locating activities on public service utilities for residential and commercial customers and includes extensive in-person customer interaction thus requires excellent communication, conflict management, and customer service skills.

The selected candidate will be required to live in the Colorado Springs Utilities service territory or be able to move into the service territory within five (5) months of hire date.

Why should you apply? In this role, you will be responsible for locating Colorado Springs Utilities owned and operated underground infrastructure, meet with contractors and homeowners to assess locating needs and interact with customers to provide information regarding type, location, and composition of utilities in the area. In addition, you will prepare drawings with excavation area, utility line location and hazards, Maintain locating equipment, stock levels, and vehicles, update construction print files, inspect damaged or severed utilities to determine the extent of damage and liability. You will also be required to drive a company vehicle to customer locations.

So, what does it take to be successful in this position? While most people in this occupation will have completed a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and have up to two (2) years’ experience operating utility locating equipment, the ideal candidate will have previous utility locating experience and knowledge of gas, water, electric, and wastewater system principles. Strong customer service skills are a must. Valid Colorado Driver’s license is required.
