Colorado Springs Utilities is looking for a Civil Engineer to join the Engineering Support Team. In this position, you will work with a team of engineers and engineering support staff in the delivery of raw water and finished water transmission systems. Key areas of focus:

  • Planning, designing, and delivering small to large, complex raw water and finished water transmission engineering projects

  • Overseeing data collection, validation, verification, and analysis for projects including but not limited to:

  • Utility locates

  • Geotechnical investigations

  • Routing studies

  • Alignment surveys

  • Land acquisition requirements including rights-of-way and easements

  • Material selection

  • Hydraulic/surge/transient analysis

  • Serving as the Engineer of Record for studies and alternative analysis, the basis of design reports, and construction drawings and specifications for internally designed projects

  • Serving as the project technical lead for all externally contracted projects. Draft and review scopes of work and reviews and advise on the technical quality of submittal documents from external engineers (studies and alternatives analysis, basis of design reports, construction drawings, and specifications) and construction contractors (work plans, shop drawings, and project specification required submittals). Oversees work of engineer I-II to ensure the technical quality, constructability, and cost-efficiency of all team deliverables for internally and externally designed projects

  • Managing all internal technical activities related to assigned projects including issues management, communication, environmental, real estate acquisition, permitting, and stakeholder engagement for planning and delivery tasks

  • Providing technical guidance to other engineering employees and/or contractors and coordinates efforts about the most complex engineering designs

  • Assuring projects and programs for Colorado Springs Utilities are properly administered and completed in conformance with applicable laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations

  • Performing and managing compliance testing, inspection, remediation, and rehabilitation efforts

  • Training and overseeing the work of field and support engineers and serves as a resource and act as a mentor to new engineers

Who you are: You are likely a professional engineer with 3+ years of experience in pipeline design including large diameter (16 inches and greater) steel, prestressed concrete cylinder pipe, ductile iron, cast iron, and high-density polyethylene pipe. We would also prefer you have experience with pipe rehabilitation including pipe bursting, slip lining, and the application of class 2 thru 4 pressure pipelining. To be successful in this job, you will demonstrate the ability to oversee a team of engineers and support staff to plan and deliver pipeline projects from studies and alternative analysis to design construction and integration.
