Gas and Water Measurement Engineer

The Advanced Utilities Technologies’ team at Colorado Springs Utilities is finalizing planning activities and ready to move to implementation of a new state-of-the-art AMI System across our service territory. We are in search of an engineer with gas and/or water measurement and metrology experience that can join our team and evolve our measurement and metering technology to maximize the capabilities of the AMI System.

This position will be filled at the project engineer or senior project engineer level depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.**

As part of the AMI Deployment Team, you will work in collaboration with the Deployment Manager; working with external vendors on meter and endpoint issues, troubleshooting endpoint communication issues, and assisting with items related to the field deployment of the AMI System. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing our gas and water metrology portfolio, conducting failure analysis, working with meter manufacturers on new technology evaluation while ensuring existing meter populations are healthy, and serving as a SME to the organization in this area focused on utilizing new technology to improve our business.

Colorado Springs Utilities is investing in our future with the AMI technology upgrade and we are looking for individuals that we can invest in that can assist the organization in gaining maximum benefit out of this venture. We are beginning to test and pilot Smart City and Smart Utilities elements which will continue to grow as we bring the AMI System online, and we are looking for those that have interest and experience working within these areas. We are also at a point that we would like to advance our metering and measurement capabilities by utilizing new technology that leverage the AMI System and you will be leading these efforts for gas and water.

In this role your key duties will be:

  • Serve as an AMI Project Lead for the AMI gas and water Deployment

  • Serve as the organization lead and SME for gas and water measurement, supporting our Meter Shop and Field services team

  • Work with the organization in building business cases to implement new technologies that provide improvement and savings to each service line

  • Participate in project development, testing, and pilot work related to Smart City and Smart Utilities

  • Be responsible for managing the automated Water Meter Testing Benches that use PLC’s and motor and valve control systems

  • Collaborate with other Engineers to manage our AMI Test Farm and conduct testing of new technologies; assist with user requirement gathering, test case development, and test case execution

  • Be responsible for Tier III support for gas and water measurement and metrology issues

  • Collaborate with stakeholders from Service Lines, Customer Service, Information Technology Systems, AMI Operations and Meter Shop to coordinate solutions development, and continuously improve existing and new solutions for gas and water

Applicable skills include:

  • You must have an Engineering degree, typically Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical, although we are open to other engineering disciplines partnered with the posted experience and skills

  • We would be very interested in someone with AMI System experience, but it is not required

  • Measurement and metrology experience are essential to this position, but familiarity with utility water and gas systems without specific measurement and metrology experience will be considered

  • If you have experience working in a multiple service Utility domain or for an AMI Vendor, this is an added plus
