Colorado Springs Utilities' Electric Service area spans almost 500 square miles and we are a national leader in reliability with power on an average of 99.991% of the time. Our Engineering Standards team works closely with other engineers in Planning, Design, Operations, and Construction to support electric system reliability, developing construction design standards, equipment evaluation, and failure analyses. Additionally, you will have the opportunity for growth while learning the engineering, design, and operation of an electric utility, including engineering support for the Water and Gas services.

Our team is seeking an entry-level Electrical Engineer to manage and coordinate engineering projects and conduct studies and research related to our electric distribution system. Some of the ways in which you will make an impact include:

  • Providing engineering support through reviewing coordination and protection schemes (with emphasis on public safety and equipment protection), analyzing and finding solutions to outages, reviewing materials or specifications for new materials, and coordinating electric infrastructure with other customer needs

  • Providing engineering support and standards development for new technology (e.g., automated metering, solar power integration, Electric Vehicle Integration, 3rd party Cellular/WiFi pole attachments, Smart City/Smart Grid programs)

  • Evaluating new or alternate materials with a focus on efficient system lifecycle costs

  • Performing tests, failure investigations and analyses of equipment, and coordinating trials of new products

  • Partnering with Electric Construction to define, document, and approve electric construction standards/methods based on industry best practices/developing technologies and assuring conformance to applicable laws, codes, and regulations

  • Writing and approving material specifications, construction standards, and guidelines for electric items/designs

  • Participating in Electric industry organizations such as IEEE, RMEL, and other electric standards groups for best practice identification

  • Reviewing changes to codes and regulations to determine potential changes to Colorado Springs Utilities' practices

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Experience with AutoCAD is valued

  • EIT Certification is valued

  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required
