Cyber / Information Technology (IT) Resilience Specialist

The Cyber / IT Resilience Specialist is responsible for working with all areas of the organization to review, evaluate, identify gaps and then modify and/or develop and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans focused on increasing the resilience of systems and processes. The Resilience Specialist will be responsible for producing policy and documentation, conducting exercises and audits, managing remediation efforts and process improvement, and presenting and reporting on efforts. Also, act as a Subject matter expert in the areas of Resilience architecture and disaster recovery operations as well as developing plans for major Business Continuity scenarios.

Typical Responsibilities include:

  • Developing business impact analysis in collaboration with business and operational areas

  • Developing disaster recovery plans for major systems

  • Produce project plans for remediation efforts and process improvement

  • Build metrics to report on progress and reduction of risk through Resilience and Disaster Recovery efforts.

  • Create, coordinate, facilitate and report on DR exercises.

  • Create and manage organizational policy and documentation to support resilience and recovery efforts.

  • Writes technical documentation, procedures, and process flows

  • Facilitate meetings and fact-finding endeavors; produce and present presentations to leadership & technical teams on findings and action

  • Participates as a member of the Cyber Security Incident Response Team and may participate in the cyber security on-call rotation (incident response function, 1-week duration every 2 months).

  • Works with the team to assess organizational security deficiencies and reviews information systems for compliance with security controls

  • Integrates cyber security standards such as NERC and NIST 800-53 with daily activities

In this role as a Cyber/ IT Resilience Specialist, you will have the opportunity to be directly involved with defining how IT resilience planning, policy and architecture work is performed at Colorado Springs Utilities, while applying your subject matter expertise related to preventing and quickly recovering from service impacting potentials. Also, in this role, there is an opportunity to gain or gain additional Disaster Recovery and/or Business Continuity certifications and training.

What will it take to be successful in this position? The ideal candidate will have strong IT experience and be self-motivated and highly proficient in planning and assessment activities. She or He will be consultative, collaborative, and results driven to develop and improve on DR/business continuity within our organization. This specialist will have a solid grasp of technical capabilities and documentation skills that can be leveraged within a production environment to reduce the impact of outages or failures within systems through planning, architecture and configuration of systems and infrastructure. A solid candidate would likely have three or more years’ experience in architecture, system/network administration, business continuity efforts and security technologies. Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems is desired. Also, a familiarity with cyber security standards such as NERC and NIST 800-53.

  • CCNA – Cisco Certified Networking Associate
