We are currently seeking applicants for a Plant Training Specialist, in the Training Department of our Power Production Division located at the Thomas Hill Energy Center.
Purpose and Scope
The duties and responsibilities of this position include adhering to Power Production Divisional training requirements and the collective bargaining agreement, maintaining alignment of training programs between power plants, and managing the overall effectiveness of plant training programs. The incumbent will provide technical expertise in establishing and maintaining simulator training programs, and oversee the development and implementation of department, team, and individual training plans to improve human performance. Additionally, this position will work with plant staff and the training committee to execute programs that provide continuous learning throughout the plant for all job classifications, union and non-union. The Plant Training Specialist is responsible for the effective development, coordination, and presentation of technical training and development programs for all employees, for assessing developmental needs to drive training initiatives, and serving as the primary manager of the Learning Management System to include tracking and reporting on employee training progress along with issuing and analyzing resulting metrics.
Adhere to the Power Production Training Manual (PPTM), which defines the precepts for both step training programs and for continual departmental training programs; this includes provisions to maintain employee proficiency. Understand and follow the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) requirements for training as they pertain to IBEW employees.
Manage the Plant Training Plan and other elements assigned in the PPTM. Oversee the overall plant training program following the PPTM and CBA. Collaborate with plant department leaders, working in an advisory capacity and guide their efforts to develop and execute effective departmental training programs.
Ensure a safety focus in all aspect of on-the-job-training (OJT) for step training and ongoing training modules, including step testing.
Develop and train any OJT trainers and provide leadership and vision for continuous learning. Collaborate with the training staff of the other coal plant to ensure the provisions of the PPTM and CBA are followed, with consistent and aligned processes, procedures, and practices.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements
Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in a related field. A strong operational, mechanical, electrical, or technical background is preferred.
Five years of experience in developing, implementing and evaluating technical training programs.
Excellent leadership skills, especially in a matrix and project model.
Excellent communication skills to include written, oral, and presentation skills.
Prior experience in researching, developing, and presenting training programs.
Experience in using and managing simulator training technology, if present at the plant.
Strong PC skills to include proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, Learning Management System, and other software germane to the position.
Planning skills and ability to think strategically.
Achieve and maintain a competent level of technical and professional skill and knowledge in order to satisfactorily perform position related tasks and duties.
Comprehensive knowledge of training techniques, both online and in-class.
