The General Utility 1 st Period works under the direction of the Shift Supervisor. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of one year of mechanical or electrical background. The General Utility 1 st Period does general cleaning in the plant, coal yard, and on outside grounds. General Utility 1 st Periods also maintain plant grounds using tractors and equipment as needed in addition to hauling trash or other waste materials using trucks or other plant equipment.

The General Utility 1 st Period may be assigned to Plant Departments when required to perform general cleaning from these departments. This position is required to accomplish more skilled work as they progress through the periods and become a full General Utility.
