Otter Tail Corporation Sales Business Leader / Business Unit Manager in Clearwater, Minnesota
Provides leadership for the development and execution of the business unit plans aligned with the company’s strategic growth objectives.
Continually enhances the continuity of interactions between sales, finance, engineering, marketing and operations.
Provides direction and recommendations, based on factual data, for segment marketing & advertising, customer pricing & seasonal programs, strategic planning and competitive activities.
Owns and has direct oversight for the launch and management of new products, programs and services to meet profit goals via formal NPD Phase Gate Process. Works with current and potential customers to promote and leverage company capabilities, capacities, systems, products and services.
Strives to achieve customer service excellence, delighting customers always.
Develops the annual segment budget, quarterly forecasts and leads the segment to achieve desired company results – sustained profitable growth.
Maintains familiarity with the competitive environment in direct relationship to the business segment and its adjacencies.
Represents the business unit at executive meetings and corporate functions.
Provides team leadership through effective coaching & mentoring, technical training and individual development methodologies. Responsible for leading and managing key personnel from sales, engineering, customer service and marketing.
Drives a culture of accountability and results through strategy deployment and effective performance management using KPI’s as the benchmark.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business or technical management discipline required.
Minimum of seven (7) plus years of progressive leadership / commercial experience in a manufacturing environment.
Proven knowledge of applied management and marketing principles, industry practices, company and competitor products, technology and service capabilities.
Knowledge of business and operational processes; proposal development, contract negotiations and program management.
Possesses strong business acumen including solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in MS Office suite including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated success utilizing a fully integrated CRM system.
High level comprehension of financial P&L statements.
Demonstrated ability to lead and align people and achieve results through others.
Proven track record of delivering strong results where employee engagement and cultural transformation are a primary focus.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to effectively and persuasively present information to top management, customers, and employees.
Strategic Vision - ability to progressively lead an organization towards the achievement of a long-term strategy while anticipating future change implications and impacts to the organization, employees, customers and markets served.
Tactical Aptitude – ability and willingness to work in the trenches to support and drive team success.
Extensive travel (air and driving) is required for this position. Valid driver’s license is required.
