About this position:
The District Superintendent Gas position are Gas Technician's that operate in rural areas of South Dakota where NorthWestern Energy provides gas service only. Responsibilities include providing overall gas services in their area, develop and maintain relationships with local communities, address customer billing and utility concerns and complete service orders. This position will often work independently and will oversee additional personnel during planned projects. Required to be on call, respond to emergencies as needed, and to work in all weather conditions.

About this job:
Demonstrates leadership consistent with NorthWestern Energy's code, values, policies, processes and controls
Leads special projects as required utilizing effective change and project management techniques
Communicate verbally and understand audible signals in emergency/safety situations
Troubleshoot gas outages and local gas distribution or transmission problems
Locate underground lines
Complete service work related to all aspects of gas distribution (as qualified or experienced)
Operate equipment, install pipe, and perform gas meter-related service work as needed
Wrap pipes and joints, hand-shovel dirt to backfill trenches, assist in scheduled leak surveys, assist in snow removal and manhole pumping, operate necessary tools, and install meters
Set meters to monitor gas consumption for residential, commercial, and industrial clients
Develop and maintain relationships within local communities, i nteract with the public and help resolve customer-billing issues
Complete needed paperwork and computer data entry to address customer-billing issues and plan projects
Assume leadership role in response to emergency situations
Ability to plan projects, direct crews and participate as a team member to complete work in an area
Assist in snow removal to maintain access to utility equipment
Shovel dirt to dig or backfill trenches as part of underground services
Use appropriate PPE
Work overtime including on-call availability for evening and weekend shifts-especially in response to acute service needs
You must agree to live within an area approved by the company that allows for adequate response to our customers in call out and emergency situations
Ability to lift and manipulate needed equipment weighing up to 75 pounds

High school diploma or equivalent
Natural gas experience required
Must meet "occupational qualification" standards to ensure qualification to perform assigned tasks including recognizing and reacting to abnormal operating conditions as specified in Title 49 CFR, Part 192, "Transportation of Natural and Other Gas by Pipeline: Minimum Federal Safety Standards" Will be required to complete NWE Gas Operator Qualification programs within 6 months of hire
Prefer ability to become plastic fusion certified within 12 months
Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
Valid Commercial Driver's License may be required
First Aid/CPR Certification
Knowledge of applicable codes and safety
Commitment to safe working practices and knowledge of safety policies/procedures
Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
Must be ready and willing to act as a project lead
