Job Summary
This position is responsible for operation, calibration, and maintenance of CEMS equipment and the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of communication, data processing, electrical systems and computerized control equipment in a combined cycle generating station.
What you will do
Demonstrates knowledge and safe work practices. This requires observing and following safety rules, polices, and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviors, which may lead to accidents.
Responsible for completing and reporting environmental reports, including State and Federal reports for CEMS equipment. Keep records in compliance with regulatory standards regarding environmental recording.
Responsible for understanding and following environmental and regulatory rules.
Operates, calibrates and maintains CEMS equipment. Coordinates or assists with required testing of CEMS equipment and systems. Assists in preparing reports; maintains records.
Install, troubleshoot and maintain communication, data processing, and computerized control equipment. Install control board, panel, relay, control and instrument wiring and piping.
Performs work on voltages in excess of 600 volts.
May at times be required to work at other IPL Combined Cycle plants as needed.
Utilizes computer applications in performance of duties.

Keep operating records as required by the Company.
Operates and/or obtains information from various mechanical and electrical devices used to support specific equipment diagnostics or work activities; gathers, interprets and logs data.
Maintain solid state devices, computers, telemetering equipment, protective relays, and switchboard instruments.
Be able to work from construction prints, wiring diagrams, and instruction books as well as make sketches of wiring circuits and maintain prints up to date.
Be familiar with and understand operating principles of power plant, computerized controls, substation equipment, and other equipment assigned.
Keep abreast of new equipment installed and test equipment required to maintain it.
Performs the electrical and electronic troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, cleaning, inspecting and constructing of equipment and systems for the generation facility. Repairs and maintains equipment and machinery, in accordance with proscribed manuals, specifications and codes using hand tools, test equipment and shop equipment.
Supports safety, plant reliability, productivity, and plant efficiency improvements by participating in various continuous improvement activities.
Participates in work in all areas of operations, maintenance, repair and testing as qualified, as needed.
Must be self-motivated, with the ability to find problems, and the initiative to foresee and prevent potential future problems.
May be required to work with contractor's personnel to assure proper installation and operation of equipment.
Performs various generating plant and shop area housekeeping functions.
Performs all work according to established procedures and safety practices.
Performs other duties which are similar, related, or incidental to this position.
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
Required Experience
- 4 years of experience as an Instrument & Control Technician and/or equivalent in an electric generating, manufacturing and/or processing/production facility
Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to solve problems.
Advanced knowledge of digital control systems such as, Emerson, Ovation, GE Mark V and Allen-Bradley PLCs preferred.
Ability to work from blueprints, diagrams, drawings, and specifications.
Repairs and maintains equipment and machinery, in accordance with prescribed manuals, specifications, and codes using hand tools, shop equipment, and test and analysis equipment.
Excellent recordkeeping and documentation skills.
Familiarity with, and ability to utilize computer applications.
High degree of mechanical and/or electrical aptitude.
Demonstrated ability to direct work of others, assist others, and assist in the training of others.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work environment.

Pay Range:
$45.56 - $52.37
