This position coordinates work to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, utilizing a variety of tools and techniques in order to develop standards; including current design specifications, pertinent code manuals, computer aided design/drafting software, and other reference sources. This position will lead members of different teams in order to develop documents required for construction of specific substation standards. This position will coach and mentor other team members in developing their expertise based on evolving industry and company standards. The position will also provide design support to field personnel during project implementation.

Normal job functions are performed on a Monday through Friday schedule with occasional travel required. The duties of this position include operation of a motor vehicle; a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.

The Production Standards group is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Selection of non-Equipment Engineering equipment and material

  • Development and maintenance of Production Standard drawings, relay settings, templates, and compatible units

  • Development of change management plans to support implementation of Standard Interpretation (SI) and Standard Position Statements (SPS)

  • Development of regional philosophies and ensure alignment with System Standard’s high level of philosophy

  • Development of processes, procedures, guidelines, and specifications

  • Support and implement design tools

  • Participate or lead the regional peer groups within Transmission

  • Support continuous improvement efforts by developing staff, advancing standard process and procedure, and consulting in collaboration with peers.

  • Be accountable for Duke Energy Midwest compliance with regulations, including standards implementation, execution and reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides subject matter technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.

  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.

  • Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.

  • Conducts engineering and related studies.

  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.

  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.

  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

  • Coaches and mentors other Engineering Technologists.

Required Qualifications

  • Either 6+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 8+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 12+ years equivalent experience without a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of substation engineering and ability to produce construction documents

  • Demonstrated proficiency with engineering computer packages; including AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp new techniques, deal with rapid changes in priorities, and remain calm and effective in stressful situations.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet required deadlines while simultaneously completing other tasks.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, partners, customers, and the public by adapting to various personality styles in a professional manner.

  • Experience and demonstrated written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others.

  • Understanding of basic principles of project management
