The Equipment Engineering Transformer Lead Engineer is responsible for all transformer and regulators in the following areas: design specifications that take into reliability, maintenance, cost, industry standards, and regulatory requirements; the evaluation and development of plans to address service bulletins; design support in regards to replacement parts such as bushings, substation engineering and equipment specification support, and support to the field maintenance organizations. The transformer engineer is responsible for performing factory evaluations, coordinating factory testing of transformers, and reviewing or coordinating transformer designs. This is to ensure that transmission assets are purchased and maintained to minimize costs while maximizing reliability.

The primary skill set and knowledge level for the Transformer Lead Engineer will be for the transformer and regulator class of asset. The secondary skill set and knowledge level is a good understanding of transmission substation equipment including protection and control.

Job Related Skills requirements include good verbal and written communications skills and a good working knowledge of Windows based computer applications; the ability to work independently on tasks/projects with limited supervision, with guidance only on unusual or complex projects or issues; and the ability to identify problems and possible solutions and take appropriate action for resolution.

Other Job Related Skills requirements include a strong background in transmission equipment and design. A strong knowledge of transformer design, oil analysis, electrical systems, and engineering fundamentals is essential.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of engineering experience

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)

  • Skilled in engineering theories and principles

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited).

  • Skilled in practices of researching Transmission equipment engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations,

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds,

  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient in principles of project management

  • Experience in the utility industry
