This position provides comprehensive environmental, health or safety support to Facilities, Real Estate, Grid Strategy, Admin. Services, IT-Telecom, and other corporate departments in Ohio, Kentucky and across Southeast portions of Indiana. Responsible for performing tasks in a wide range of environmental, health or safety disciplines to achieve compliance with the organization’s EHS standards and with federal, state and local regulatory requirements. Works under remote supervision. Provides consultation to company line management and employees that are usually from detailed instructions and established procedures. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment for following defined policies and procedures. Develops, implements and maintains basic programs, systems and procedures. Performs monitoring and prevention of EHS incidents and hazards. Provides regulatory-required and internal environmental reports. Works with others to investigate incidents, accidents, injuries or complaints. Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize the hazard potential. Assists in the development and conduct of employee training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance programs. Maintains a working knowledge of technical aspects of regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as single-points-of-contact or coordinator to implement environmental, health or safety activities that require broad knowledge and experience in order to provide compliance solutions to EHS issues. Supports basic work activities in order to comply with environmental, health or safety laws, regulations and corporate requirements. Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of basic programs, systems and procedures. Provides regulatory-required and internal environmental reports. Participates in EHS compliance and management system audits.

  • Assists subject matter experts and customers in environmental, health or safety activities that require basic knowledge of EHS issues. Assists in monitoring and preventing EHS incidents and hazards along with investigation of incidents, accidents, injuries or complaints.

  • Supports section and department administrative and development functions including budgeting, special projects and assignments, employee training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance programs.

    Required/Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety or • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or • Bachelor's degree in Science • In addition to required degree, 3 plus years related work experience • In lieu of Bachelor's degree(s) AND 3 plus year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 7 plus year(s) related work experience

    Desired Qualifications

• Master's degree in Science or• Master's degree in Engineering or• Master's degree in Other Technical or• Master's degree in Health and Safety or• Master's degree in Business• Project Management Professional and/or Professional Engineer and/or CIH and/or QEP and/or CSP and/or CHMM

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Concept knowledge of environmental and/or health & safety regulatory compliance requirements, scientific practices, quality assurance principles, and auditing principles.• General technical skills in multimedia environmental (air, water, waste) and/or health & safety areas.• Very good communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented focus.• Some experience in negotiating with regulators at the state and/or federal level.• Ability to support EHS compliance at multiple facilities/regions within multiple regulatory jurisdictions.

Travel: Local day travel. Very occasional overnight travel required.
