Job Description
Position Overview
The Senior Associate, Commercial Analytics will develop market forecasts for the different utility-scale generation projects and advise Developers on potential future sites for various Clean Energy Technologies. The Senior Associate, Commercial Analytics will also be responsible for monitoring natural gas markets and assisting with M&A and marketing activities.
Commercial Analytics is responsible for assessing and communicating information about the energy markets to the New and Operating Business Groups. Associates are expected to have internal knowledge and views of electricity and gas markets and provide project specific views of market risk (price, basis, curtailment/capacity factor) for projects during all stages of development and operation.
Responsibilities
Effectively communicate quantitative concepts and conclusions to a variety of audiences including senior management.
Provide analytical support to Operations and other internal and external market agents to support the company’s projects.
Develop dispatch and energy margin expectations for budgets of operating projects.
Forecast the impact of ISO/RTO bidding strategies on realized energy margins from projects.
Value hedging opportunities to support renewable and/or thermal Operations.
Provide security constrained economic dispatch analysis for our merchant generation projects and development opportunities.
Aid DA and Term Trading in the development of quantitative presentation materials for specific generation projects.
Required Skills
Bachelors or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, or Finance
Minimum four years of trading or experience dispatching generation at utility scale.
Exceptional problem solving skills.
Demonstrable familiarity with dispatch modeling of ERCOT, NYISO, PJM, and SPP generation, with CES Dayzer preferred.
Excellent Excel skills.
The candidate will possess effective written and oral communications skills to convey knowledge about commodity markets and its impact on electricity markets and customers.
Preferred Skills
- Six years of experience in a trading environment.
