About this role...
We are currently seeking a Director of Engineering to facilitate the development, improvement, and ongoing management of engineering and maintenance of electrical transmission infrastructure including high voltage substations and high voltage transmission lines. As a leader in competitive transmission, this role will ensure that LS Power continues to meet its strategic objectives to sustainably deliver safe, reliable, low cost transmission infrastructure projects nationwide. As the Director, you will drive cost management strategies assessing total cost of ownership models for key design decisions that minimize both initial capital costs and ongoing operating costs. This position will play a key role on large capital projects by interfacing with various teams including business development, project management, and operations and maintenance. In addition, this role will balance the various stakeholder priorities and drive technically sound and cost effective solutions. You will lead, develop, and implement standard engineering design specifications and guidance documents for various electrical transmission elements where appropriate as well as also provide engineering design and project management support for small capital and O&M projects including estimating, conceptual design, engineering oversight, contractor management, and budget and schedule management. This role will also serve as an engineering resource for the transmission Asset Management team evaluating maintenance strategies, recommending business improvements, and managing overall standards which provide for safe, reliable operation of long-lived assets. The Director of Engineering would be expected to represent LS Power in various industry organizations. This position will report to senior leadership in the organization.
What you will do ...
Represent Asset Management, Operations and Maintenance, Planning, Compliance, and Supply Chain groups during proposal preparation, project development, engineering and construction of large capital projects
Lead the development of internal engineering and technical standards that meet functional requirements and applicable federal, regional and state regulations as well as balance total ownership cost.
Ensure compliance with internal engineering and technical standards for all projects.
Oversees selection of and negotiations with engineering consultants and coordinates consultant activities for small capital and/or O&M projects.
Develop maintenance strategies for assets across the organization
Understand and apply industry standards, as well as applicable state and federal regulations.
Manage small capital and O&M Projects, or strategic business initiatives.
Leverage industry organization and peers to establish best practices.

BS in Engineering or higher (Electrical preferred) from an accredited university.
10-15 years of design experience in the electric transmission industry
Professional Engineer licensee beneficial but not required
Knowledge & experience with engineering design for electric utilities in North America
Knowledge of modern Asset Management and Project Management with certification beneficial but not required
Pass a 7-year background check
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project
Experience with Maximo and/or other Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
Be able to work within the requirements of a regulated utility
Effectively manage multiple assignments occasionally under time constraints
Collaborate effectively with a diverse team

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Work independently with direction on a regular basis
Ability to learn new software as necessary
Routinely works in corporate office environment but will occasionally work in the field on construction sites and potentially energized substations.
Occasional travel may be required, approximately 20%-30%
