NiSource Construction Coordinator - Petersburg, VA in Chester, Virginia

Purpose: Coordinate and guide the activities associated with natural gas construction in accordance with all applicable requirements, ensuring safe, reliable service to customers in an efficient, economical manner using sound, independent decision-making.Coordinate with customers, contractors, vendors, construction services leadership, welders, engineering, field operations and logistics to ensure cost- effective construction.Construction activities typically include installation, abandonment, or retirement of pipelines and both company and customer owned facilities. It may also include, but is not limited to, leak repair, paving, leakage inspections, corrosion installations, etc.

Safe/efficient high-quality construction work that complies with policies, practices, and standards.

Collaboration among engineering, technical services, and construction on project designs.

Complete construction projects which meet customer expectations and budget requirements.

Strategic, effective counseling for company vs. contract scenarios.

Positive relationships with external municipalities and local authorities.

Collaborates with field operations/construction services, field operations leaders, and construction FLLs to ensure internal/external crew efficiencies are achieved.

Actively interacts with contract crews leaders to ensure contractor performance adheres to established metrics and policies/procedures.

Attends pre-construction meetings with local municipalities to protect the interest of the company.

Notifies schedulers when there is a need for welder, stopple crews, directional bore crew, etc.

Manages capital construction, improves capital spending efficiency and return on invested capital.

Implements best practices while driving functional consistency, process standardization and operational excellence.

Partners with engineers to develop best-value construction practices and cost estimations for large pipeline projects.

Promotes the necessary environment for effective internal customer satisfaction and collaboration.

Assures activities and processes are implemented to ensure the safe, reliable and cost effective delivery of service to customers.

Effective use of technology, tools and planning techniques to improve process results.

Fosters and promotes valued relationships with government entities, industry associates, company affiliates, and contractors.

Promotes and assures safe working environment and public safety.

Executes construction services strategies.

Manages pipeline construction contracts.

Manages efficient, safe and quality construction of new and replacement mains and services, joint sealing, cathodic protection, service tie-overs.

Monitors appropriate contractor qualifications and certifications and ensures proper documentation.

Collaborates with peers to ensure that operating standards and construction practices comply with policies and procedures.

Required for Selection:

Minimum of Five (5) years underground utility construction experience

Demonstrated knowledge of gas operations including gas flow, construction, contracts and emergency response

Strong knowledge of policies, procedures, and standards pertaining to construction and local, state, and federal operating codes

Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and organize, including attention to detail to generate accurate and timely daily-progress records and as-built project sketches.

Ability to interpret construction drawings and operations maps

High School Diploma or equivalent

Working knowledge of and experience using a computer.

Experience working with pipeline contractor

Demonstrated ability to collaborate across business unit boundaries (e.g., field operations, technical operations, logistics), as well as build rapport with contractors and customers.

Self-motivation and demonstrated ability to work with little direct supervision and make sound, independent decisions.

Preferred for Selection:

Leadership experience

Strong Service background

Prior experience developing accurate tie-in plans.

Work Management System experience in executing design capital job orders progress reports, and job inquiries.
