EPB Vehicle Maintenance Technician in Chattanooga, Tennessee
Job Summary
The Vehicle Maintenance Technician, referred to as an Auto Lubricator, will work a second shift position (4 PM - 12:30 AM).
This role requires candidates to either currently hold or be able to obtain within six months a valid Class B commercial driver’s license with tanker and HAZMAT endorsements. Candidates must be authorized to drive all company vehicles. Please note that the HAZMAT endorsement requires drivers to be at least 21 years old.
The Auto Lubricator provide maintenance services, such as lubrication, fluids, oil changes, filters, etc., and perform other related duties for the garage according to policies, procedures, manuals, and instructions. Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, and replacing filters. Must be able to identify visual deficiencies of mechanical parts when performing maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lubricate equipment.
Change the oil as needed, replacing it with the proper amount and type.
Replace engine air, fuel, hydraulic, and oil filters.
Check transmission and differential fluids; check, change, and filter fluid in hydraulic system; check battery, master cylinder on brake system, power steering reservoir; add or replaces fluids or lubricants and filters as required.
Lubricate all fittings on revolving turrets, booms, and outriggers.
Drive all company equipment and operates, for lubrication purposes, all booms, buckets, and winches.
Inform the Manager when the supply of lubricants, filters, etc., needs to be replenished.
Open work orders, issue all parts used, and complete the Preventative Maintenance worksheet.
Perform B-level repairs on vehicles.
Identify mechanical problems, often by using computerized diagnostic equipment.
Remove, repair, install, and balance all-size tires in the shop as needed. Install, remove, and repair tire chains as required.
Attend safety meetings and actively participate in safety awareness programs and activities.
Inspect all vehicles during the performance of duties and report any abnormal findings to the Manager.
Lubricate and check fluid levels in overhead cranes and air compressors throughout the EPB complex.
Assist other personnel in the department in moving bulky or heavy objects and assists auto mechanics as needed.
Incorporate "System Reliability" into completed work and strive for "Excellence in Customer Service" when dealing with job responsibilities.
Know the appropriate written safety rules and procedures and adhere to them. Keep tools, equipment, and supplies in proper working order and maintain a clean, safe work area. Attend safety meetings and actively participate in safety awareness programs and activities.
Perform hostler duties as needed in the absence of other personnel.
Operate the hydraulic oil filtering machine.
Assist in dielectric and structural testing.
Education and Experience
Possess or actively working to obtain automotive certification from a college or technical school, or 5 years of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
General knowledge of mechanics of equipment.
Completion of the required training period.
Certification(s) and Other Requirements
Possess and maintain a current, valid Class B commercial driver’s license with tanker and HAZMAT endorsements and authorization to drive all company vehicles or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
Ability to drive a vehicle with a manual transmission
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations in measuring and cutting hoses, tubing, and structural steel.
Ability to read and understand repair manuals, handbooks, reference books, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics.
Furnish proper tools to perform duties. A tool list will be set forth by Department Leadership.
Meet acceptable standards in cleanliness and appearance. Cleanliness and safety of the work area are of high importance.
