Position Purpose

Responsible for establishing and driving the strategic direction for one or more products in support of the enterprise. This position works with senior product managers and business partners to understand needed business outcomes of the products and with architects, engineers, technology brokers, and external service providers to understand the underlying technologies. The product manager monitors health, performance, and maturity of products in order to assist in driving ongoing improvements and development of product roadmaps. Responsible for understanding key technology trends to understand applicability of new technologies and how the integrate with information technology strategy, architecture and associated initiatives. The product manager helps to establish standards as well as assist in driving standards adoption across the enterprise. This individual will focus on growing, participating, and learning with the support from other product managers.

Supervisory Responsibility:None

Budget Responsibility: Responsible for obtaining funding through investment requests process for programs and projects ranging up to $25M.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Possesses growing expertise for a single product and potentially a system or platform.

  • Participates in product related meetings and serves as voice of respective product area(s).

  • Assists both in advising the enterprise on available standards and in driving standards adoption.

  • Assists with the portfolio management activities for the respective product(s).

  • Participates in the development and maintenance of investment requests for respective product(s) for proposed IT programs, projects, and multi-year IT Plans which align and support Enterprise IT Strategic Plan.

  • Remains apprised of current solutions in the marketplace for the product area(s).

  • Communicates status and potential opportunities to other Product Managers, Management and Stakeholders

  • Helps facilitate innovation and continuous improvement that will be used to streamline methodologies and application portfolio management for products.

  • Supports the development of sustainable strategies to ensure effective and efficient outcomes within the product area(s) including assisting in the creation and maintenance of the product roadmap as a part of the broader overall IT strategy.

  • Supports development of the performance expectations and metrics for product area(s).

  • Informs senior product manager(s) and business engagement lead(s) of performance (e.g., metrics) or issues and assist in continuous improvement opportunities for performance or helps develop remediation plans for issues.

  • Collaborates with Senior Product Managers to evaluate new technology products to fully understand their available capabilities and services

  • Understands IT cost drivers and connects cost-of-service to consumption drivers and performance standards.

  • Reviews business requests, performs standards reviews, and participates in prioritization to ensure appropriate priorities are addressed.

  • Researches industry trends, maintains relevant technical expertise and remains abreast of evolving technologies through interaction with vendors, peers and participation in benchmarking activities and professional conferences/seminars.

  • Assists with product requirements definition and writing prior to any & all engagements for proposals for work.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Education.A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business administration, math, or related field; or equivalent education, training & experience; must possess a strong desire to learn and grow professionally.

    Experience.At least 3 years’ experience delivering IT products, projects, services, direct business engagement or related discipline.

Demonstrated competencies such as teamwork, negotiation, plan development, and flexibility. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills with the ability to converse and convey complex technical and people related matters at all levels of the organization. Ability to facilitate collaboration within diverse objectives. Possesses working knowledge of TVA processes, programs, and practices. Ability to analyze complex technical and management problems and determine best solutions. Ability to understand and perform economic and decision support analysis. Demonstrates and drives TVA competencies on a daily basis. Self-motivated and able to work independently on occasion with increasing ability for independence. Occasional travel may be needed for training, work assignments, or meetings. May be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position / access requirements and essential job functions. Assessment may be required to demonstrate proficiency
