Position Mobility: This is a Hybrid position.

Ideal candidate will have demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and have a basic understanding of environmental calculations (i.e., air emissions from combustion sources).

Job Summary

  • Plans, conducts and reports the results of engineering studies aimed at evaluating the environmental effects of activities and at resolving environmental engineering problems.

  • Participates in the initial discussions of the purpose, scope and goals of projects. Plans how activities will be conducted to fulfill study purposes and achieve study goals. This includes deciding which methods will be employed, scheduling, allocating the use of equipment and other resources and making cost estimates.

  • Directs and participates in activities by directing the work of engineers, scientists, and technicians; using and calibrating equipment; sampling and use lab equipment frequently; making judgments as to whether or not alteration of methods are necessary and makes alterations based on conditions; making observations of project conditions which will later be used in interpreting the results of project activities.

  • Develops and implements environmental compliances projects and provides guidance in response to changes in laws and regulations.

  • Prepares various environmental regulations reports such as PCB, NPDES, DMR, SARA, Title V and hazardous waste reports (solid waste monitoring reports and permit application).

  • Reviews and ensures the technical adequacy of project results. This requires the application of environmental engineering principles, standards and techniques, as well as the application of applicable environmental laws, regulations, standards and guidelines.

  • Keeps abreast of technical developments in the area of environmental engineering and advises project personnel of changes and their significance.

  • Pursuit of professional development through active participation in technical and professional societies.

  • Frequent regulatory, customer, and plant interface

    Supervision Received

    At the beginning of assignments, instructions are given either verbally or in writing on the objectives and scope. Assignments usually are accompanied by deadlines from the customer. Conflicting deadlines and priorities are resolved by the incumbent. Assignments may be reviewed for technical adequacy upon completion. Work independently and participate on interdisciplinary teams to provide engineering support in development and implementation of projects dealing with traditional and innovative environmental engineering technology.

    Minimum Qualifications(Consistent with Classification Standard)

    Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil or chemical engineering, or other related engineering degree from an accredited college or university with environmental course work. A Master’s Degree in desirable.

  • Membership in a related professional or technical society or related certifications such as a Professional Engineering license (may be required in accordance with TVA Business Practice 15) are desirable.

  • Must have demonstrated proficiency in engineering as evidenced by completion of Engineering Graduate Progression Plan or equivalent post engineering graduate education and experience.
