Job Summary:

Serve as senior consultant to lower level corporate analysts. Responsible for overall payroll process including a wide variety of payroll activities including current, accruals, and reversals functions and services related to payroll operations. Responsible for understanding and applying accounting procedures, TVA labor contracts, and Employee Relations related instructions.

Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific):

  • As an experienced accounting professional with a defined area of expertise, perform accounting assignments in other areas of accounting in order to continue professional growth and diversity.

  • Develops and executes controls to ensure data integrity and accuracy of payroll data as well as timeliness of payroll. Provide ongoing review and assessment of any internal control or documentation issues in support of SOX.

  • Provide detailed analytical input, develops methodology, applies controls and analyzes results of the accounting, revenue and financial reporting cycles.

  • Exercise autonomy in consulting with and advising accounting and/or financial management regarding accounting controls. Regularly exercises professional judgment by providing the interpretation and application of accounting guidance and the impact on TVA’s goals, objectives, results of operations and financial performance. Situations and issues requiring advice and interpretation often involve unique situations and may become precedent setting.

  • Identify risk, assess the implications and identify control objectives to mitigate TVA’s exposure. Provide consultation with only minimal supervisory input with regard to defined area of accounting expertise and operates independently with option to consult supervisor or senior accounting analysts in other areas of accounting.

  • Independently develop control objectives, applies accounting theory and industry standards to complex problems for management decision making.

  • Provide leadership and project planning, initiation, and project management functions.

  • Provide both ad hoc reporting and data analysis in support of the total scope of business responsibilities.

  • Provide day-to-day customer support. Serve as point of contact for customers Valley-wide (individual employees, business partners such as OGC, Employee Service Center, ER consultants)

  • Initiate, develop, and maintain processes related to payroll. Conduct payroll processing, payroll calculation, off cycle processing, and off cycle calculation. Review wages computed and correct errors to ensure accuracy. Conduct root cause analysis to prevent reoccurence and initiate process improvements.

  • Interact with other areas of the organization and external contacts on issues as required

  • Collaborate with other organizations to meet both requested data analysis needs and to communicate in a proactive manner potential additional assistance available in support of more informed business decisions.

  • Participate in confidential and complex key transactional processes.

  • FOR TAX ROLE: Ensure all payments and taxes (federal, state, and local) are handled with accuracy and timeliness and in compliance with applicable laws.

  • FOR TAX ROLE: Direct and assist with preparation of annual wage reporting statements (W2s) and all tax calculations and payments.

  • FOR TAX ROLE: Ensure all journal entries and reconciliations are handled with accuracy and timeliness.

  • FOR TAX ROLE: Monitor legislative changes and test changes into the payroll system

    Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard):

    Education–— A Bachelor’s degree with field of study in a business related field or a closely related degree; or equivalent education, training and experience in payroll processing.

    Experience– Minimum of five years specific work experience.

    Certification/License, etc—

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities— Requires a high level of knowledge related to system capabilities, labor contracts and system process. Requires high level knowledge of TVA’s human resource system. Must have the ability to interpret and use TVA’s internal policies and procedures, personnel guidelines, procurement guidelines, business practices. F Must exhibit strong customer service skills. Must be able to analyze financial data, summarize related accounting matters, plan, develop and implement project and effectively communicate, either verbally or written. Must have working knowledge of financial systems and controls as well as computer skills and financial analysis skills. Candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position / access requirements and essential job functions.
