Position Summary

This position serves an engineering role with a primary focus on configuration and deploying Cisco data network equipment across the Duke Energy enterprise data networks. This is a highly technical role on a fast paced team, with a responsibility to provide reliable IP connectivity to internal employees and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and implement enterprise LAN, WAN and wireless data networks.

  • Performs rule reviews and configuration updates of additional appliances, such as firewalls and WAN accelerators

  • Maintain accurate diagrams and configurations for all network devices

  • Experienced in adhering to proper Change Management requirements and processes

  • Work in an Agile team environment with peers

  • Contributes to and participates in network improvement initiatives

  • Deployment of code upgrades

  • Contributes to team knowledge base

  • Participates in on-call rotation duties

  • Participates in after-hours work efforts

  • Provides increased availability during Storm Preparation and Storm Mode conditions

  • Represents Telecom Support organization professionally in interaction with internal business partners and other IT Support groups

Working Conditions

  • This position must sit in Charlotte, NC

  • Up to 5% travel

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, OR ten (10) years of prior equivalent work related experience in lieu of a degree

  • Minimum of five (5) years of job related experience in addition to a degree

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with first hop redundancy protocols, such as HSRP, VRRP, and GLBP

  • Experience with routing protocols, such as OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP

  • Experience with Cisco IOS and NXOS platforms

  • Experience in a predominantly Cisco network environment

  • Proven ability to speak and write about complex technical topics to a less technical audience

  • Ability to independently prioritize daily work, and prioritize multiple tasks

  • Ability to carry out daily work responsibilities with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated leadership in technical roles

  • Demonstrated leadership identifying improvement opportunities and solutions

  • Basic Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio

  • Demonstrated commitment to personal and team success

  • Cisco Route/Switch Certifications CCNA, CCDA desired.

  • Experience with Cisco VPN technologies

  • Experience with Enterprise-class Firewall technologies

  • Experience with Syslog, TACACS, Radius, or SNMP

  • Experience with Cisco Secure ACS or Cisco ISE

  • Experience with Quality of Service mechanisms

  • Experience with Avaya Voice systems

  • Experience with Cisco Voice systems

  • Experience with SIP, and Session Border Controllers

  • Experience with Cellular 3G/4G technologies

  • Programming experience with Python or shell scripts
