Position Summary: Rigging Technician B is a non-exempt position in the construction, maintenance and repair of substation equipment / systems.* * Rigging Technician B has a 4-6 year working knowledge of 525 kv and below substation equipment, and apparatus. This position requires heavy lifting and carrying or jacks, rollers and crossties, and works with various pieces of construction equipment specific to the trade. A Rigging Technician B may work independently or with others, occasionally work long hours during emergency conditions. This position should be able to coach subordinates on the crew. Rigging Technician B is qualified to design and perform complicated lift plans using hydraulic cranes, wire rope and synthetic slings and rigging hardware. These technicians are required to use hydraulic and mechanical lift systems to lift and relocate super heavy loads for electric utilities. These lift systems include the slide-beam and the four point lift system. These are complicated systems that require a working knowledge of hydraulic principles. The Rigging Technician B must know and understand the use of oil handling equipment and air compressors.
Essential Functions: * */_ _/ · Works safely while performing equipment rigging and hauling and placement during new construction and maintenance of existing stations, which includes, but is not limited to, work involving the following:/__/ /_ _/ o Crosstie Foundation Installation o Jack, Roll and Move Heavy Loads by Winch or Cranes o Terminations (High / Low Voltage) o Control Building Placement o Equipment and Material Transportation o Capacitor bank installations 23kv- 230 kv o Transformers, regulators and circuit breaker Installation
- Responsible for maintaining Company vehicles, and tools in good working conditions
- Frequently works around or in close proximity of energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
· Able to perform rigorous physical labor. · Must be capable of climbing and working at heights up to 50 feet above ground.* · Must possess or be able to obtain a Commercial Drivers’ License. · Must be capable of obtaining Hazardous Materials and Tanker endorsements on Commercial Drivers’ License. · Must supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work. · Must supply own safety toed work boots. · Must be capable of lifting and carrying in excess of 50lbs. · Must be able to work independently or with others.* · Must live within 40 mile radius of Pike’s, 6624 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC 28269 Office* · Employee is subject to periodical callouts various hours within a 24 hour period.* · Previous experience transporting large unstable loads* · Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment :*
o Bucket, derrick and boom trucks** o Backhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders** o Articulating Man-lift** o Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklifts** o Rough Terrain Cranes** o Mobile Hydraulic Truck Cranes** o Road Tractors** o Large PTO driven winches** o Hydraulic lifting systems**
· Willing to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested. Schedules can change frequently and with short notice.* · 90% Travel Required* · Capable of following Company safety rules and policies.** · Must have knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards. · Understand/comply with DOT rules/regulations for permitted loads · Must be capable of working in close proximity of energized substation equipment. · Must be capable of interpreting substation equipment location drawings (i.e. elevations, plan views, section views, grounding details, and foundation plans) and communicate with customers and subordinates. · Capable of accurately appraising technical situations. · Must be able to coach subordinates on the crew. · Must be able to develop and interpret a material list. · Knowledgeable in all aspects of rigging systems. · Must possess a good sense of size perception and depth perception · Must be capable of signaling or verbally directing workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
