Position Summary

Work with Innovation Management team, Retail Programs Strategy and Lines of Business to develop and maintain a pipeline of ideas and technologies that can significantly enhance the portfolio’s contribution to customer satisfaction and EBIT generation. Ideas and technologies will address customer needs and deliver business value. Responsible for presenting promising business case recommendations to leadership and stakeholders for approval to move into offer development.

Analyze market, industry and technology trends to build new product and service concepts. Research will include working with support organization to gather voice of the customer insights through phone interviews, focus groups, questionnaires or surveys, or working with research organizations to obtain industry data. Additional research sources will include benchmarking with other utilities, companies, suppliers and/or industry organizations.

Prepare Initial Project Documentation and regular project updates – Prepare business case, presentations, requests for Proposal/Information/Quote, financial modeling and assumptions, marketing plans, contracts, training materials, and others as required for the program.


Building new offer business cases by determining and addressing customer needs and identifying the business value for the offer. Solutions are informed by primary and secondary research, financial and market analysis, as well as market acceptance and consideration of operational, regulatory, customer, risk and technical factors associated with the offer. Responsible for presenting the business case recommendations to leadership and stakeholders for approval.

Coordinating with subject matter experts on writing and issuing requests for proposal/information/quote, preparing statements of work, contracts, developing customer/vendor/partner agreements, terms and conditions and tariffs. Building program forecasts, financials and go-to-market plans, including promotional materials, customer facing personnel training and operational design.

Managing the offer development communication and stakeholder management by working with project core team, subject matter experts, leadership and stakeholders to assure transparency and collaboration on the product definition, program structure, project plan, key milestones, program assumptions, issues and risks. Assures that all parties are informed and have a voice in the project progress, challenges and decision making.

Assuring the effective implementation of the new offer to customers by shepherding the required program elements, including IT build and integration, process design, staffing and training, customer experience maps, regulatory filings, marketing/advertising materials operational handbook and other tasks to successfully launch and transition the offer to the operational organization.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’ Degree in Engineering or Business field

  • 6 Years of prior equivalent work related experience in lieu of a degree

  • 1-3 Years of prior work related experience in addition to a degree

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, challenge and achieve results in the face of limitations caused by organizational paradigms, historical processes or resources constraints.

  • Marketing analytics capability/ proven ability to analyze market and financial data as well as perform research in order to develop successful product strategies and plans, e.g., market research, market strategy, competitive intelligence, customer insights, financial models, sensitivity analysis.

  • Prior experience with program management, project management, user experience, behavioral science, industrial design, digital media or process improvement

  • Facility to represent the company and develop relationships with influential , skeptical and discerning audiences on contentious issues ; on key community, regional or national boards /committees; in community/customer events or with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for use with media, public meetings, customer meetings etc.

  • Multi-function or multi-departmental experience at Duke Energy

Specific Requirements

  • Effective analytical, problem identification and resolution skills and the ability to be productive with ambiguous information/situations

  • Ability to manage multiple projects leveraging project management tools and processes to prioritize work

  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation

  • Ability to lead small teams or participate as a team member to meet deadlines, resolve issues and keep projects on track

  • Proven self-starter, results-oriented and requiring minimal supervision to take charge and get things done

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and clarity of thought and purpose when confronted with highly stressful situations.

  • Experience working in a team environment coordinating resources in a matrixed organization to meet customer and business expectations

  • Demonstrated ability to build thorough business cases for the associated program, line of business and targeted customers

  • Experienced in Microsoft Office software tools with the ability to learn new systems.
