Position Summary

Manage and facilitate enterprise-wide programs offered through the Duke Energy Leadership Academy with a focus on leadership development offerings targeted to front-line and mid-level leaders.


  • Facilitate enterprise-wide offerings from the Duke Energy Leadership Academy

  • Facilitate program content through multiple delivery methods, virtual facilitation and face-to-face, and by utilizing virtual meeting technologies such as Webex and Teams

  • SME on content topics delivered to leadership from various business units within the enterprise

  • Analyze needs and propose solutions, plans and implements assignments, thinks strategically, anticipates needs, and demonstrates business awareness

  • Applies business skills, innovates, and drives results

  • Conduct train-the-trainer sessions to build a pool of adjunct trainers across the company to support scalable solutions

  • Manage and facilitate leadership programs, coordination of offerings either virtual, in-house, or off-site locations

  • Flexibility to lead individual contributor programs, also, to include aspiring people leader program and orientation classes

  • Ensure active participation in the classroom and on-the-job application for learning transfer (may deliver follow-up workshops to ensure sustainability)

  • Ensures engagement of participants in the classroom and models the flip-classroom approach through use of thought-provoking questions, experiential learning, utilization of classroom technology/applications, and by modeling excellent facilitation skills

  • Plan and manage program schedule and logistics for program facilitation from end-to-end including learning sustainability activities (dates, coordination of guest speakers, communications, invites, etc.)

  • Effectively communicates with class stakeholders and participants to assure alignment on pre-work activities and mitigate drops/no-shows

  • Provide feedback to guest speakers, facilitators, and adjunct facilitators to enhance their delivery skills

  • Deliver presentations to a variety of audiences across Duke Energy

  • Support the delivery of core leadership offerings and provides feedback for program revisions. Collaborates with other program facilitators and ensures content delivery aligns with Duke Energy’s culture

  • When facilitating programs, creates a productive climate for learning and discussion, supports and encourages participation, fosters self-discovery, helps group make connections/insights/decisions, and handles disruptive participants effectively

  • Prepares thoroughly for facilitation, uses adult learning principles, conducts learning activities/skill practices, gives feedback to participants, etc.

  • May support the delivery of employee offerings

  • Utilizes Cornerstone LMS (MyLearning) to manage sessions, load pre-work, upload/submit roster, enroll participants, run reports, etc. or coordinates with Learning Technology professionals to effectively do so

  • Assists in management of third-party learning vendor relationships to include material delivery, invoicing, alignment to master service agreement, while adhering to budget

  • Monitors relevant program data and informs stakeholders on performance and pertinent metrics

    Working Conditions

  • Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED AND six (6) years minimum experience in the design/development of learning solutions

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Learning & Development, HR, Communications, or related field (a plus)

  • Demonstrated expertise in the facilitation of leadership development offerings, 5+ years’ experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a corporate learning and development department

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in leadership capacity

  • Strong interpersonal communication and excellent facilitation skills

  • Extensive experience facilitating classes to various audiences (face-to-face and virtual delivery)

  • Experience facilitating virtual instructor-led learning through WebEx, Microsoft Teams, etc.

  • Able to deliver program offerings to large scale audiences at different levels

  • Experience facilitating engaging virtual classes and extensive experience in leveraging various tools to keep learners engaged

  • High energy and stamina to deliver a large volume of offerings throughout the company

  • Leadership experience in a corporate environment

  • Excellent PC skills with demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint ant Teams experience

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (Cornerstone), training support tools, a plus

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication and presentation skills for communicating information and addressing issues in a clear and effective manner to varying levels of employees and management

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and human relations skills, e.g., influencing skills and listening skills, to deal effectively with all levels of management and employees

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze concerns/issues, develop logical conclusions and make appropriate recommendations based on data

  • Demonstrated project management skills to manage program offerings from end-to-end

  • Develop innovative, creative ideas to address complex training-related problems, concerns, and programs

  • Demonstrated ability to speak effectively to large and small groups and flexes style when necessary to meet the needs of the learner

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate group discussions and engage audience

  • Desire to maintain industry knowledge and pursue information regarding learning and development best practices

  • Serves as program manager. Effectively plans, schedules, coordinates, and monitors the activities of learning programs. Ensures that programs are completed on time, within budget and in accordance with business needs. Monitors status and makes necessary adjustments to plans and schedules, when needed.

  • Accountable for the effectiveness and impact of program offerings

  • Remains abreast of current and emerging learning and development practices, trends, and keeps up to date on best practice delivery methods.

  • Must be able to adapt to several roles: training, consulting, facilitating, and collaborating up, down, and across the organization.

  • Builds positive working relationships with colleagues, HR, participants, and clients through excellent interpersonal skills

  • Possesses ability to conduct work with global mindset to include respect for cultural differences, honoring different perspectives, expanding own awareness, adapting behavior to accommodate others, championing diversity and inclusion, and leveraging diverse contributions

  • Must deliver work with the highest level of integrity and ethics, consistently demonstrating respect to colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders

  • Keeps up to date with new virtual facilitation platforms and tools
