Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy Charlotte Corporate Office.

Job Summary
This Engineering Role will have technical ownership of ash basins, cooling ponds, landfills to fulfill Duke Energy’s mission for improving the environment through ash basin closure. The Engineer II/III position is a developmental intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in these positions begin to solve more complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. An Engineer II and III is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence.
This position will report to the Coal Combustion Products (CCP) Carolinas West Engineering Manager, with their daily activities overseen and mentored by a CCP Lead Engineer as appropriate. The position will be based out of Charlotte, NC, and will work as a hybrid teammate with field work at the Cliffside Station (Mooresboro, NC) and other Carolinas west stations as may be appropriate.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to
Leads engineering design and development of projects from identification of problem through development of construction drawings
Prepares detailed and complete designs including plans, reports, design drawings, calculations and specifications either in-house or through a vendor.
Reviews and ensures permit applications are submitted and obtained in a timely manner for dam safety, E&SC, construction in floodway, Army Corp of Engineers, and others as needed for project scope
Provides construction support during implementation of engineering designs including, but not limited to participating in project meetings, answering RFI’s either in house or through a vendor, and resolving site engineering/design problems
Acts as a subject matter expert, providing technical authority for CCP dams, landfills, and other assets
Performs technical review of engineering designs from third party engineering vendors
Reviews and approves major submittals, answers RFI’s and resolves non-conformances, either in-house or through a vendor during implementation.
Provides technical authority for CCP dams, landfills, and assets
Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities,
Manages changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team,
Develops positive working relationships with RRE and EHS personnel to effectively coordinate work activities,
Supports the company’s goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Required Qualifications
Engineer II
• Bachelors degree in Engineering• In addition to required degree, 2 years related work experience
Engineer III
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or other related field of study
Six (4) or more years of experience
Desired Qualifications
• Bachelors degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering• In addition to desired degree, 4 or more years of related work experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Exposure by past work with geotechnical, construction, and design of impoundment dams, cooling ponds, landfills and water pumping operations.
Basic awareness of environmental and regulatory requirements related to coal combustion products, dams, landfills, and effluent permits.
Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
Working Conditions
Considerable time spent in the field.
Must have the ability to safely walk on uneven or sloped surfaces, for extended periods of time.
Specific Requirements
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
Must have a valid driver’s license
