Depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position as an Associate Fuels & Fleet Analyst or Fuels & Fleet Analyst

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for providing analytical support for fuel procurement, fuel forecast modeling (both mid and long term) and power trading and dispatch. Primary areas of responsibility include dispatch pricing, position management, production cost modeling , outage scheduling support, budgeting and rates analysis.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Take ownership of existing or new dataflows, analytic tasks, reports and dashboards. Evaluate assumptions, accuracy, and performance of reports.

  • Frequently update and maintain models as technical and business requirements change

  • Provide pricing for both dispatch and production cost modeling including coal, oil, natural gas and reagent pricing

  • Serve as technical liaison for analytic requests from business partners within organization including power traders, fuel procurement, production cost modelers and resource planning analysts

  • Support fuel procurement with proposal evaluations, price projections, transportation optimization and other necessary analytics

  • Support FSO department reporting including but not limited to fuel inventory and projections department metrics, weekly reporting, etc.

  • Support Integrated Resource Planning through price projections detailed above for 30-year period

  • Assist with data requests from Rates & Regulatory teams for all Duke Energy jurisdictions

Basic/Required Qualifications: Associate Fuels & Fleet Analyst

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Business, Accounting, or related discipline

Basic/Required Qualifications: Fuels & Fleet Analyst

  • Masters’ degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Business, Accounting, or related discipline OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Business, Accounting, or related discipline and two (2) or more years of work-related experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to understand and convert complex contract terms to mathematical formulations for quantitative models

  • Strong quantitative programming skills. MATLAB expertise strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with database structures and ability to navigate & query large databases with minimal assistance

  • Practical kKnowledge of data visualization tools. Qlikview experience strongly preferred

  • Highly proficient with Excel including VBA and database connections

  • Familiarity with mathematical optimization techniques and production cost models

  • Practical experience with timeseries regression analysis, parameter estimation, Monte Carlo simulations, correlation analysis

  • Advanced presentation skills with ability to communicate technical subjects to a wide range of audiences

  • A general understanding of electric, gas, oil or coal industries. Experience in financial and/or commodity markets is preferred
