The IT Summer Internship is Duke Energy’s premier leadership and technical development summer internship position for high-potential, presently enrolled college students seeking to increase their knowledge foundation and skills in the field of Information Technology, at the country’s largest electric power holding company, to assist in both their respective academia and future careers.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with scheduling and upgrading our server and storage infrastructure

  • Upgrading and troubleshooting VMware ESX infrastructure

  • Assist with >365 vulnerability effort to remediate security vulnerabilities

  • Opportunities to learn BigFix deployment packaging

  • Assisting with communications to stakeholders for remediation efforts

Basic Qualifications

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program as a rising Sophomore or Junior or Senior

  • Enrolled in an IT or Engineering related major, such as Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Software Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering

  • Valid driver's license

​Desired Qualifications

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Two or fewer years of full time IT or Engineering work experience

  • Exposure to or familiarity with computer networking and telecommunications, application design and development, information security (e.g., applications, intrusion detection, firewalls, etc.), operating systems, database administration

  • Leadership potential or skills displayed through extracurricular activities (e.g., intramurals, boy/girl scouts, clubs and organizations)

  • Ability to excel in a variety of roles

  • Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting

  • Community service, volunteer experience

  • Self-driven, motivated, and proactive
