The Outdoor Lighting group manages the business and growth of the utility’s Regulated Outdoor Lighting products and services in each of the 6 states served by Duke Energy. This group is responsible for the support of growth and development for the Outdoor Lighting group in Retail Programs; including but not limited to, product/program management, reporting, financial analysis and business consultation.
This intern should be prepared to work in a fast-paced team environment and will finish the internship having gained broad experience in various aspects of business.
Responsibilities of an intern may include the following:
Work with Sales Managers to facilitate the sales of value-added outdoor lighting products and services to Residential, Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional customers by supporting the Sales Managers with data analysis, sales proposal/estimate creation, packaging sales materials for presentations to external customers
Supports customer facing product managers and engineering technologists by engaging in process improvement opportunities.
Supports the building of reports to support business related needs
Perform analysis as needed to support revenue generation from product development
Perform analysis on third party databases to determine target markets within potential customers to market products and services to, as well as, finding new markets and opportunities to pursue for business growth.
Supports marketing initiatives to further expand the promotion of outdoor lighting products and services
Has the ability to work with a high degree of independence
Perform data entry as needed to support program / product / sales initiatives
- Office and field environment - requires walking, light lifting, infrequent climbing, and occasional exposure to temperature and noise, prolong sitting at a desk
Enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Marketing at an accredited college or university or Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Must have minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
Must not graduate before December 2018
Sophomore to Master’s education level
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
If engineering major, a Systems Engineering or Industrial Engineering major is preferred
Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite software strongly desired
Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
Demonstrates ability to provide the quantity and quality of work necessary to reach an accomplishment
Demonstrated leadership qualities through effective decision making
Works effectively with others from diverse backgrounds to achieve common goal
Ability to deliver superior results within allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work
Demonstrates tenacity by remaining persistent in the face of difficulty
Demonstrated technical proficiency in use of computers, software, and project related applications
Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially over the phone
Demonstrated researching and problem solving skills
Strong organization skills with attention to detail
Desire to pursue a career in the energy industry
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, appropriate clothing, ear plugs, fall protection, etc.) as needed
