Job Description

I am Energy! Are you? Alliant Energy is currently recruiting for exciting college internship opportunities for summer 2024. Join us as we work toward a clean energy future for the communities we serve!

Our internship program empowers you to apply your coursework to challenging and meaningful projects. Join one of 30+ interns between our Iowa and Wisconsin locations in this experience including an executive luncheon, volunteer events, site tours, networking activities and other opportunities. You’ll continue to develop your skills through meaningful work.

• Location: Cedar Rapids, Ames or Centerville, IA (Hybrid)

• Start Date: Monday, May 20th, 2024

This is a hybrid-remote position reporting to an Alliant Energy office in either Cedar Rapids, IA; Ames, IA; or Centerville, IA.

What you will do

As a Planning Engineer Intern you’ll gain an understanding of the electricity industry. You’ll work with a host planning engineer, the broader team and collaborate with other interns. Some projects you’ll complete include:

• Perform electric distribution system studies

• Perform studies on behalf of planning engineers within the department

• Conduct power flow studies for Long Range Planning (LRP) or Distributed Energy Resource (DER) interconnections

• Use Synergi Electric application to create a model for analysis and identification of system violations and solutions

Education Requirements

• We are looking for students pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

• Currently holding a GPA of 2.75 or higher

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite

• An active interest, fresh ideas and a desire to learn about the utility industry

• Capable of working independently

• Ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment

• Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

• Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills
