This position will be supporting Duke Energy's, Cayuga Generating Station near Cayuga, IN
This is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. The Engineering Technologist III will provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.
Provide technical assistance/troubleshooting in resolving design, operation and maintenance problems and contact internal and external experts as required.
Support development and management of the facility’s capital and O&M budgets.
Diagnose electrical control problems using schematics, wiring diagrams and Operation & Maintenance manuals
The primary areas of focus will be the AC & DC electrical distribution equipment, Generators, AC machinery and Relay Protection and Control.
Possess the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
Model Environmental, Health and Safety principles, focus on unit availability and reliability, and develop engineering solutions to complex problems.
Develop and Review preventative maintenance and emergent work plans.
- Power Plant environment - Standard office, with periodic exposure to heat and cold.
- Either 3+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 5+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 9+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
Demonstrated understanding of the operation and maintenance of "Low and Medium Voltage Equipment, including Switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Transformers, Motors and Generators and Associated Control Systems
Understanding of DC Battery Systems, Battery Chargers and Uninterruptable Power Systems.
Experience in the Fossil Generating Stations with Steam Turbine/Generators, Fossil Boilers, Electrostatic precipitators (ESP’s), Flue-Gas Desulfurization (FGD), Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR's) and other sub systems.
Demonstrated understanding of electrical protective systems, protective relay types, and automatic voltage regulators.
Demonstrated understanding of various methods of electrical testing and the application for which the test is being performed.
Demonstrated basic understanding of NERC regulations and arc flash.
Demonstrated understanding of Lockout Tag Out Methods for worker protection and equipment isolation.
Ability to execute advanced troubleshooting, equipment issue resolution, equipment repair work scopes, and root cause analysis.
Possess a basic understanding of mechanical components such as bearing, couplings, seals and pump/fan performance
Experience with computer maintenance management systems, such as Emax or Maximo.
Experience with electrical rotating equipment condition based monitoring.
Available for occasional after hour consultation and weekend call.
Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, control logic and wiring diagrams.
Ability to utilize Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and Power point.
Ability to provide clear direction verbally and in writing to others for work assignments.
Proficient in principles of project management.
Available for occasional travel to electrical manufacturers and electrical equipment repair shops.
