General Purpose

A Journeyman Communications Technician is a Journeyman having or obtaining within 6 months of assignment an F.C.C. general radio telephone license (GROL) with a working knowledge of Company communications equipment. As assigned, installs, maintains, adjusts, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs voice and data communications equipment, which includes but is not limited to light wave, microwave, radio, SCADA, telemetering and associated switching or termination equipment. The Company will pay for the initial fee associated with obtaining an F.C.C. general radio telephone license.

Responsibilities

A Journeyman Communications Technician will be responsible for maintaining PacifiCorp Communication systems; including but not limited to Voice and Data communication systems, Telephone systems, Microwave radio systems, Land Mobile Radio systems, SCADA systems, Power Line Carrier equipment, Chart recorders, Telemetry, Fiber Optics/Lightwave and associated switching or termination equipment. The Communication Technician will also be responsible for installing, testing and certifying any or all of the above listed equipment. They usually work independent work assignments, but may be assigned to work with a Senior Communications Technician and other company personnel as needed. When assigned, this person will direct the work of an Assistant Communications Technician. The Communication Technician is responsible for vehicles, tools and materials supplied by the Company for use in this position.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must have an FCC (GROL) license or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.

  • 3+ years of experience as a Communication Technician with experience in the responsibilities noted above.

  • Good driving record.

  • Pass a written and practical test.

Preferences

  • Two-year college, technical degree or military training in electronics.

  • 5+ years experience as a Communication Technician in the utility industry.
