Job Description

Part-time student opportunities allow undergraduate and graduate students to schedule their work around their classes. These roles are available in both the office, customer service centers, and in the production environment. This program will allow students to gain experience working in a business/manufacturing environment while maintaining their full time academic commitments.

This part time work can be done throughout the student’s matriculation at college/university with the options for extended work hours during the summer months. Student are eligible for part time opportunities after the completion of their freshman year and can work until graduation. Students must be within a commutable distance of the Southwire location to participate in the Part Time Student Program.

This internship will be hosted for the Summer 2024 semester

Description

Serving as training Development Project Leader, the ideal candidate shall possess the following skills:

  • Ability to collaborate with different partners within and outside the corporation. For example, manufacturing plants, test laboratories, customers, vendors, consultants, contractors, etc.

  • Ability to lead projects with autonomy and personal accountability in a very fast-paced, time and budget-constrained environment

  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects in parallel to timely completion

  • Ability to take initiative to recommend projects, product improvements, or cost reductions

The successful candidate must be:

  • A team player and Comfortable with leading edge research, product enhancement, and process improvement in a time-constrained market-driven research and development environment

  • Creative and analytical problem solver individual

  • Able to adhere to the task at hand and see difficult projects through even when facing setbacks

  • A good project and people manager. He/she will participate in multiple projects with differing priorities, and roles

  • Able to conquer the science necessary to develop a product while being able to plan, visualize project milestones, anticipate lead times, and take the necessary actions for a timely project completion

  • An excellent communicator both verbal and written

  • Self-motivated and results oriented

  • Willing to do hands on work to produce product prototypes and perform required testing

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in engineering – preferably Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical

  • Product development experience

  • Experience with the process of product certification, for example UL, CSA, and others preferred but not required

  • Experience in statistical analysis preferred but not required

  • Skills in SOLIDWORKS or other CAD software, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and simulations are preferred but not required
