MISO Energy Systems Engineer in Carmel, Indiana

Location: Carmel, Indiana

MISO is hiring a Systems Engineer to collaborate with partner organizations to define, design, develop, and support system solutions composed of people, process, technology, and data which ensure the future systematic reliable operations of the bulk electric power grid. The engineer will participate in problem definition, requirements development, functional design, and other systems engineering activities by following systems engineering principles and best practices. This position employs modern systems engineering practices including Requirements Management, Design & Modeling, and Integration, Verification & Validation methods to develop and evolve our energy management platforms. We are looking for someone who is curious, good at asking questions, and skilled in applying engineering concepts!

As a Systems Engineer at MISO, you will:

  • Demonstrate technical leadership with interpersonal and effective communication skills enabling effective collaboration, negotiation, and success in a dynamic team environment.

  • Be a liaison between the Systems Engineering team and the various internal business stakeholders, partnering with them to build system engineering artifacts to support program/project management, vendor development, and business analysis.

  • Collaborate across a broad and diverse set of partners (Enterprise Architecture, R&D, Product Teams, Software Development, Test, and Business teams) to develop systems engineering deliverables on multiple projects in strategic portfolios.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following:

  • At least 3 years of relevant systems engineering work experience applying systems engineering practices across all phases of the system lifecycle (concept, design, requirements, test, integration, operations, and retirement)

  • Basic knowledge in modeling using tools such as Orbus iServer, Enterprise Architect, IBM Rhapsody, Dassault Cameo, etc.

  • Experience with requirements analysis using tools such as Blueprint, IBM DOORS, etc.

  • Proficiency providing design support using a variety of techniques and additional tools.

  • Experience applying systems engineering practices as a systems “thinker” who can approach problems logically, iteratively, and incrementally at multiple layers of abstraction to decompose and synthesize issues.

  • Demonstrated strength at documenting and maintaining artifacts such as functional specifications, concepts of operations, and operational definitions in support of engineering practices.

  • Understanding of Agile methods, software development lifecycle management, continuous integration, build and release management and managed environments.

  • Understanding of quality processes appropriate for development and sustainment of high-availability, mission-critical systems.

  • Familiar with the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), Systems Engineering Certifications from INCOSE are welcome.

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience, knowledge, and skills.
