As our Advisor/Day Operator, you will help provide support to the Balancing Authority (BA) and Unit Dispatch System (UDS) operators so they are positioned to operate the grid reliably. The BA and UDS teams play a critical role in ensuring MISO balances generation and load on a Real-Time basis. We dispatch thousands of resources, operate the MISO Automatic Generation Control, deploy reserves etc. to ensure the continuous balance of load and generation in an economic manner.

As the Advisor/Day Operator, you will be part of the team that is close to the frontline where everything happens and the “rubber meets the road” in terms of operating one of the biggest electric grids in the world. You will provide Real-Time support to the BA and UDS desks; drive improvements to processes, tools, and procedures (e.g. improvements to tie line management processes, market products, as well as UDS and other critical desk tools); participate in procedure reviews and development; and participate in/lead operator trainings. You will also own the team’s quarterly model load process.

In one year as our Advisor/Day Operator, you will know you were successful if:

  • you have developed depth of understanding of the MISO BA and UDS desks

  • you are NERC certified and board qualified for both desks

  • you have helped improved BA desk tie line management processes

  • you have helped establish performance metrics for measuring BA and UDS functions

  • you are contributing to UDS improvement

    We are looking for hardworking professionals who have:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Technology or a related field OR 10 years of equivalent technical work experience

  • NERC Certification or Ability to pass NERC Certification At least six or more years of relevant work experience in related field required

  • Ability to successful pass the Oral Board and Simulation Certification for Balancing Authority and Unit Dispatch System desk following on-the-job training

  • Demonstrated leadership with the ability to effectively influence cross-functionally and at various levels within the organization

    We would also prefer candidates with the following:

  • System Balancing and Dispatch experience

  • Experience with Automatic Generation Control, Unit Dispatch System, Automatic Reserve Sharing, NERC BAL Compliance Standards

  • Experience as Real-Time Operator or Engineer

    Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
