The Director, Permitting, for AES Clean Energy (AESCE) will report to the Vice President, Permitting and Real Estate. The Director will provide leadership to the regional permitting SME team (team) to successfully meet AESCE’s goals to enable a clean energy transition. This position will work with other regional directors to lead the improvement of processes and provide the tools needed for the SME teams to effectively support project development of renewable energy projects throughout the central region.

This role requires the ability to manage, grow and retain a team of highly effective SMEs, work on multiple tasks, strategies, and special projects that support the VP, and includes travel to multiple offices within the US. The successful candidate will be a strong and compassionate leader, effective communicator, and able to develop relationships across a large cross-functional team that includes origination, project development, legal, finance, engineering, and construction.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead development of the team’s goals and development plans, working together with the VP to drive strategic planning processes

  • Ensure the team meets AES goals through creative solutions and close coordination with AESCE development team

  • In partnership with the VP and other regional directors, analyze regulatory and policy trends, exploring consequences to our processes and strategy

  • Identify and provide the tools needed to empower the team and drive successful project execution while maintaining high morale and positive culture

  • Develop and provide focused training for the team, and identify and encourage regular professional growth opportunities

  • Lead diligence on investment opportunities proposed by our Development and M&A teams.

  • Influence a large network of AES stakeholders to coordinate with and engage positively with our team.

Requirements:

  • 12+ years of SME and/or leadership experience, preferably in the renewable energy sector

  • Proven track record as a credible, reliable leader and subject matter expert

  • Demonstrated experience managing high-performing SME teams

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory land use and permitting processes

  • Expert knowledge of renewable energy construction process; project entitlement and real estate development; and renewable energy project/asset evaluation and acquisition.

  • Ability to read and interpret legal documents

  • Demonstrated experience closing large renewable energy financial transactions

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $170,000 and $221,000/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
