Manager, Asset Optimization

Work Location : Butte, MT preferred (Other major office locations may be considered)

Pay range : 11-12 ($101,000 to $164,300)

About this position:

The Manager is responsible for creating value for customers and shareholders by managing a team responsible for optimization, analysis and evaluation of NorthWestern Energy's participation in organized electricity markets and other regional initiatives. The successful candidate will also represent NorthWestern on various working groups, committees, and regional organizations.

This position will work within a team environment and require a strong understanding of energy markets, regulatory requirements, and asset operations for the company's Montana and South Dakota operations.

    About this job:

  • Represent NorthWestern Energy's interests in the Western Resource Adequacy Program ("WRAP"), Western Energy Imbalance Market ("EIM"), Extended Day-ahead Market ("EDAM"), SPP Markets +, and other market initiatives

  • Represent NorthWestern on working groups and committees related to markets and regional initiatives

  • Develop expertise on design issues related to markets and other regional initiatives

  • Direct and supervise quantitative and qualitative analysis related to regional market initiatives

  • Develop and maintain working relationships with staff at peer organizations, markets, and regional programs

  • Manage the development and maintenance of internal reporting related to NorthWestern Energy's market activity

  • Understand and support compliance with regulatory requirements related to regional markets and initiatives

  • Develop asset optimization strategies for Montana and South Dakota resources to efficiently meet customer needs

  • Assess opportunity resources for the supply portfolios

  • Supervise coordination of NorthWestern Energy's activities related to its membership in SPP

  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record

  • Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or comparable field

  • Minimum of five years' experience in electricity markets, utility operations, or related field; experience in, EIM, CAISO, or SPP a plus

  • Ability to show initiative, manage a team, and work independently

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office products

  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex market tariffs, standards, and procedures

  • Ability to work effectively with groups and teams to accomplish organizational goals

  • Demonstrated ability to represent NorthWestern Energy appropriately in public meetings and processes (add Regulatory)
