Maintenance Shop Specialist - Valve Team

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a two Maintenance Shop Specialist - Valve Team positions located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville . Position closes December 7, 2021 at 11:59 Central Time. This position will report to the FIN Team Supervisor.

Candidates must have previous AOV and MOV maintenance and testing experience within the nuclear industry. The candidate will be required to qualify to the Level I Valve Technician and maintain those qualifications.

Position Summary

This position is responsible to provide technical support to the Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) Maintenance Department by performing the following main functions:

Develop/revise detailed integrated work schedules (online/outage).

Develop/revise maintenance and surveillance procedures (online/outage).

Develop/revise minor maintenance and Preventative Maintenance (PM) work orders (online/outage).

Schedule training for maintenance personnel (online/outage).

The Shop Specialist performs this work to ensure that performance of the work by Maintenance Technicians will correctly test/repair CNS systems and equipment, will be in compliance with regulatory requirements, and will not cause reactor trips, emergency system initiations, or equipment damage.

This position is also preferred to maintain full qualifications as a Level I Technician to ensure an adequate pool of qualified personnel are available to correct plant problems.

Education, Training and Experience

Must be recommended based on the Power Plant Maintenance Positions Selection system (MASS) results.

Associates degree (or military equivalent) in electronic/instrument engineering technology (or instrument control/electrical/mechanical discipline as applicable).

OR

Successful completion of an Instrument Control/Electrical/Mechanical Apprentice Program.

AND

A minimum of five years experience in the specific Maintenance Department business unit operations, maintenance, planning, or scheduling is required.

Demonstrated proficiency with automated planning, scheduling, and project management tools is preferred. Demonstrated leadership skills and overall integration of NPPD's key enabling processes is preferred.

Note: Other work experience or demonstrated performance indicating that the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the required duties may be substituted for the specific years of experience.

The candidate will have previous AOV and MOV maintenance and testing experience within the nuclear industry. The candidate will be required to qualify to Level I Valve Technician and maintain those qualifications.

Preferred skills include an understanding of scheduling maintenance windows, including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and testing to ensure proper scheduling of work. Experience using SAP, Syntempo, eSOMS and Microsoft Office products is also preferred.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Develop complete detailed work packages with job hazard analyses for use by craft personnel to perform required maintenance.

When necessary perform work in the field and act in the position of Supervisor during absence of regular duty personnel.

Provide 24-hour coverage as needed to support CNS.

Serve as liaison and technical expert with engineering, training, and other departments (and/or vendors) to develop, coordinate, and implement training and station modification activities.

Advise and coach other maintenance personnel in the skills of planning and maintenance.

Act as a technical consultant to others, for maintenance activities in his/her area of expertise.

Develop work schedules and resource loads for maintenance shop schedules, online, outages, and special projects.

Conduct field walk-downs and research of complex system/component operation as necessary to analyze procedure development/revision and corrective/preventive maintenance.

Maintain qualification as a Technician which includes attending continuing training. Stay current with applicable regulatory changes to ensure regulatory compliance and ensure compliance with Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) requirements.

Practice strict adherence to all safety practices for the work being proceduralized, performed, or planned.

Develop, implement, and coordinate on-the-job training (OJT) and Task Performance Evaluations (TPE) schedules for incumbent technicians.

Ensure continuing training is scheduled and completed. Assist in the development and maintenance of the applicable training program to meet and exceed American National Standards Institute (ASNI) and INPO standards.

Perform cause analysis per the Corrective Action Program (CAP).

Ensure proper implementation of the CAP by resolving human performance, equipment, and regulatory concerns.

If required perform 10CFR 50.59 evaluations and other safety reviews of procedure changes to ensure new revised procedures do not cause a nuclear or personnel safety concern.

Research, develop, and revise maintenance and surveillance procedures.

Participate in Emergency Response Organization as directed by applicable Superintendent.

Shop Specialist is accountable for miscellaneous other responsibilities as assigned or required by the Superintendent.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth.

Pay Grade - 13 Hourly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $ 36.12 - $ 45.15

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
