Description

This position is responsible for the on-going training of Commercial Driver’s License and DOT safety compliance education. The DOT Safety Coordinator-CDL Instructor must implement effective and safe training techniques for entry level drivers in both classroom and road environments. This position will assist in facilitating and maintaining DOT regulation compliance on office yards and project sites, as well as manage situations arising during mobilization efforts. Critical for success is the ability to be self-motivated and possess excellent written and oral communication.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the position include, but not limited to:

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.

  • Evaluate driving skills by conducting road tests and evaluating knowledge, practices, and compliance. Perform follow up observations and provide training when deficiencies are observed.

  • Educate and train new and/or current drivers on procedures for proper inspection and safe operation of vehicles in accordance with state, federal, and company regulations.

  • Formulate training schedules to best align with business timing, company production processes, business systems, or changes there-in.

  • Analyze training processes to verify effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements. Implement process improvement initiatives after approval.

  • Maintain mandatory DOT records based on state, federal, and company regulations. Perform transactional data entry into systems with a high degree of accuracy. Scan, organize, and file documents.

  • Maintain knowledge of various state, federal, and company DOT regulations concerning commercial vehicle operations.

  • During site visits, conduct random inspections of vehicles to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and assist and OSHA regulation compliance.

  • Develop and conduct orientations, tool box talks, safety meetings, and training material.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualified candidates must possess 3+ years of licensed tractor/trailer experience and at least 1 year of relevant experience in DOT regulations and safety compliance, or equivalent. Applicant must have effective oral and written communication skills, be detail oriented, and have demonstrated computer proficiency. A current Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a Federal DOT Medical Card is also required.
