National Grid Ventures is hiring a Transmission Development Manager. The hybrid role can be located in our Brooklyn, NY or Boston, MA office.

Job Purpose

The Transmission Development Manager (TDM) will support the development and delivery of our competitive Onshore/Offshore transmission infrastructure and work across the NGV NE organization supporting origination, project development, commercial evaluations, engineering, design and siting / permitting, and other project delivery workstreams. The TDM will also work closely with our broader National Grid Ventures team to help advise and support on transmission policies, grid integrations and other transmission development plans including liaising closely with offshore wind team.

This role will support the execution of a holistic US northeast competitive transmission strategy and the underlying business cases to develop competitive projects that have adequate returns and risk mitigations for capital investment from NGV.

As a a member of the Chief Commercial Officer’s team, this role will work closely with internal and external technical experts, internal functional stakeholder groups such as Government Affairs/Finance etc., and existing and future Joint Venture partners (including closely with Transco), to support the full-life cycle of developing and delivering transmission projects.

Key Accountabilities

• Contribute to a matrix team structure for the project delivery for transmission market development activities.

• Conducts valuation and commercial impact analyses of emerging investments and structures well designed, clear and compelling Requests for Proposal response opportunities.

• Develops materials for strategic meetings with NG Executives, JV Board(s) where relevant and/or on transmission related topics.

• Acts as key collaborator/coordinator across the broader National Grid and National Grid Ventures organization as well as the Transco consortium, including leading specific Transmission project workstreams’ delivery.

• Monitors emerging industry related transmission policies and developments, working with stakeholder engagement teams, corporate affairs and external participants, as needed, to influence and steer towards desired or favorable NG/NGV outcomes.

• Monitors competitive landscape and keep team up to date on developments, advising on risks and opportunities for expansion. Recommends the best course of action to deliver on current business strategy.

• Gather and prepare information on projects to facilitate risk evaluation and decision-making

• Manages and develops a team of high performing analysts

• Sets clear performance goals and directions that enables the department to achieve business outcomes.

• Builds a trusting environment, encouraging diverse thoughts and perspectives.

Qualifications

• Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and advanced post graduate degree (MBA) preferred and 7+ years of relevant work experience in transmission infrastructure developments, policies and/or energy industry, leading complex projects.

• Preference for undergraduate or graduate engineering degrees.

• Experience working with or in the power sector or delivering of large infrastructure projects

• Knowledge of US power industry and transmission development experience preferred

• Knowledge of federal & NYNJ/NE state siting processes, ISO (NYISO, PJM, NEISO processes and policies is desirable.

• Experience working with various areas of legal requirements, such real estate, regulatory filings, commercial arrangements, supplier contracts and other, is highly desirable.

• Detail-oriented, quantitative & analytical skills, team-player, with solid communication skills

• Advanced writing/power point story-telling skills highly desirable

• Familiarity with recent trends in conventional generation, offshore wind, energy storage, transmission & distributed generation is beneficial.

Salary

Downstate NY $162,000 - $191,000 a year

New England $152,000 - $179,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
