Valuation and execution support of Avangrid’s non-organic M&A transactions for U.S. and global growth. Involvement in aspects of the transaction, including: valuation and due diligence, structuring and integration.

Regular interaction and close coordination with teams at Avangrid and Iberdrola. This includes Avangrid Renewables and Avangrid Networks, as well as corporate functions like Finance and Treasury, Accounting and Tax, Legal, and Regulatory. Support key relationships and dialogue with investment banks and other financial advisors to track utility, renewable energy, and cleantech M&A themes, as well as to identify target acquisition opportunities.

The Corporate Development team is a flat team, including 3 professionals that lead all internal and external work required for the execution and approval of M&A transactions in the U.S. and other core markets:

  • Benchmark U.S. and global competitor activity in M&A track M&A trends in the U.S. and other core markets. Research electric and gas utilities and renewable energy trends and develop theses on core value opportunity to Avangrid and Iberdrola

  • Identify and analyze specific opportunities in renewable energy (wind, solar, battery storage and other emerging technologies) as well as in regulated assets (gas, electric, and infrastructure)

  • Lead supporting financial and valuation analysis, including (among others): operating models, discounted cash flow, precedent transactions, and comparable companies

  • Develop proforma earnings accretion / dilution and proforma credit analysis

  • Prepare investment or divestment memos or dossiers for executive decision

Skills and Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in business or science major required. MBA or Master’s Degree preferred. 6 years’ work experience in companies related to energy sector.

  • Relevant work experience in power, utilities and renewable energy private equity, investment banking, top-tier utility corporate development or renewable energy development team

  • Prior experience in M&A, including: opportunity origination and pipeline management, valuation and due diligence, and execution

  • Strong understanding of renewable energy project development and financial modeling; strong understanding of U.S. electric and gas utility regulation and financial modeling

  • Results-oriented, with strong critical and creative thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communicating and influencing skills, with the ability to present complex, technical topics to internal and external audiences of various sizes and knowledge levels

  • Ability to write proposals, reports and memos in a clear and concise manner to advance program initiatives from a business and regulatory perspective

  • Ability to read and interpret regulatory orders and tariffs, federal / local regulations and reports

  • Strong cross functional team skills, desire to serve co-workers and provide customers with excellent service

  • Proven ability to work independently and at all levels of the organization.
