INDICATIVE DUTIES :

Under the direction of a Hydro Operator Mechanic and supervisors for all indicative duties: Operates attended and unattended hydroelectric generation stations; dams, intakes, fore bays, spillways, and water conduits; and related electronic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Operates computer control systems, switchboard and manually operated controls to operate equipment such as impulse or reaction turbines, electric generators, power circuit breakers and transformers, pumps, cooling and lubrication systems, and flow line gates and valves. Receives, verifies and performs step-by-step operating procedures. Issues, transfers and releases work authorizations to include approvals, permissions and clearances. Checks computer screen displays, takes instrumentation readings and conducts inspections of equipment and facilities. Determines nature and cause of abnormalities and initiates corrective action. Maintains manual or terminal entry station logs and operating and various other reports and records. Maintains recording instrument readings. Services, cleans, and lubricates equipment. Operates telecommunication equipment. Performs housekeeping and material handling. Operates motor vehicles. Operates switching up to 230kv on Transmission & Distribution equipment. Writes switching programs.

Performs periodic, preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance such as disassembling, repairing, and assembling of plant equipment; replacing, adjusting packing; lubricates equipment; assist others such as mechanics, and technicians; troubleshoot malfunctions. Conduct training.

Diagnose, report, and record equipment problems. Write maintenance orders. Operate equipment such as snow vehicles, station cranes, and hoists.

Qualifications

Knowledge of: Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment, basic computer theory and language, system construction, capacity, limitation, theories of operation and operating procedures; plant design and equipment locations, valve configurations, and normal range of flows, temperatures, levels, methods to clear equipment; tools, safety rules, equipment and systems malfunctions; reporting procedures and practices, maintenance procedures and practices; electrical and mechanical prints, rigging standards, generation plant terminology and nomenclature. Function and purpose of hydro station and related equipment and switching procedures; security; Accident Prevention Manual; fire control procedures; procedures and reference sources for the operation of hydro generation station facility, computer control systems; maintenance of records. Rigging standards and techniques.

Ability to: Learn to understand and follow instructions or procedures for electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic diagrams; detect and diagnose equipment and system malfunctions and take corrective action to restore to normal operation; stop damage or waste; communicate clearly; operate computer control systems; write legibly and compute accurately. Occasionally perform heavy physical work. Perform lubrication of equipment; and cleaning and housekeeping duties. Climb ladders or stairways; see, smell, hear or feel to determine operating conditions; The knowledge, skills and abilities required of this job are of a level comparable with those with a high school education. Maintain a valid California Class C Driver’s License
