Spire is seeking a Sr. Collections Specialist. This position will coordinate collection activity for all regions of Spire.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the daily activities and provide supervisory-type guidance and direction to the internal and external collections team

  • Provide analysis and feedback regarding collection issues resulting from internal processes

  • Manage day-to-day activities with external collections agencies

  • Coordinate company research and responses to written consumer credit bureau disputes

  • Provide information related to collection practices and policies in response to three states’ public service commissions and other complaints

  • Ensure consistent use of collections technology across all companies within Spire

  • Resolve administrative changes and adjustments to customer accounts with SAP, CC&B and in third-party collection systems

  • Participate in various projects as a subject matter expert for credit & collection purposes

  • Maintain regular communication between all company groups related to or impacting collections

  • Perform the duties of Manager, Credit & Collections when necessary

  • Serve as liaison between the Collections, Field Ops and the IT field support team

  • Assist collection teams in maintaining focus on meeting company goals and objectives

  • Document collection issues and assist with the implementation of new, corrective risk strategies

  • All other duties as assigned.

Essential Characteristics and Competencies

  • Ability to demonstrate the essential behaviors

  • Ability to understand and use technology to perform collection tasks. Subject matter expert, as it relates to credit & collections.

  • Ability to adapt in a fast-moving and changing culture

  • Ability to act as an informal resource to colleagues with less experience

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Leads and mentors assigned members of the internal and external collections team.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree in business-related field or equivalent experience

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience in the collections and/or credit industry

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Regular office conditions

  • Overtime and/or travel may be required
