Southern Company Performance & Reliability Data Analyst in Birmingham, Alabama

The Performance and Reliability Department assists Retail Generation and Power Delivery in all aspects of equipment health, performance, and maintenance processes through the following areas: 24/7 equipment monitoring & diagnostics, on site condition-based maintenance & performance testing, daily & outage work management planning support, and analytics & reporting.

This position will be a member of the analytics team which serves as the business product owner for data integration and reporting tools for Generation and Power Delivery. The focus of this role is to enhance operational & maintenance processes to optimize equipment reliability, efficiency, and costs. A key responsibility is creating and refining fleet reports and dashboards that enable users to integrate various data types from multiple sources including operational time-series, Maximo work management, cost, and performance data to make informed and strategic decisions.

Additional responsibilities include support for individual plant requests, like-unit comparisons, identifying and communicating best practices, applying lessons learned across the fleet, and ensuring consistency to improve processes. The position will also provide internal reporting support to the following teams within Performance and Reliability: Operations Monitoring & Diagnostics Center (OM&D), Condition Based Maintenance (CBM), Generating Plant Performance Testing (GPP), Outage Planning, and Work Management.

WORK LOCATION:

This position will be located at the Energy Center in Birmingham, AL. This position will require some travel (10%) to sites across the Southern Company territory in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related 2-year or 4-year technical degree.

  • Experience with extract, transform, load (ETL) tools for connecting, integrating, reviewing, and preparing data for further evaluation.

  • Experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI and Tableau for analyzing data and creating reports and visualizations.

  • Understanding of power generation and power delivery operations & maintenance, or related manufacturing processes is preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support effective reporting and data analysis across Generation and Power Delivery

  • Serve as a primary interface to Retail Generation Plants, Power Delivery, Technical Shared Services, Operation Monitoring & Diagnostics Center, and the Technology Organization to drive improvements in data analysis tools and processes.

  • Establish and maintain strong communication with all levels of plant and corporate employees, management, vendors, peer groups, and subject matter experts.

  • Provide formal and informal training to end users on implementing reports as tools they can leverage for making informed and strategic decisions.

  • Actively participate in internal and industry user groups to stay updated with the latest visualization tools and analytic techniques.
