The Lead Engineer, Conservation and Load Management (C&LM) will support new and existing energy efficiency programs for all sectors of energy efficiency programs in Avangrid service territory. Primary duties include technical and economic feasibility studies, calculate and document anticipated energy savings as well as associated incentives within the context of the approved conservation and load management plan. The Engineer will represent Avangrid to external stakeholders through active participation in trade groups and presentations at professional events.
Technical support for Conservation and Load Management team -the main responsibility is to support the internal team in all technical matters, including the Commercial Industrial, Residential sectors and Demand Response. This includes but is not limited to reviewing technical proposals and building plans, assisting team in reporting requirements and creation of data tracking and analysis and assisting internal team in Technical Resource Manual matters including development of new measures and analysis of existing measures.
Calculate and document anticipated energy savings and incentives—calculate anticipated energy savings from proposed projects using the approved program savings document and other reasonable technical evaluation techniques. Determine incentive amounts within program rules. Document and track all participation progress including energy savings calculations and incentive amounts within the approved program tracking platform. Use technical experience and market awareness to identify and support the technical feasibility analysis and evaluation of new energy savings measures, services and programs for customers.
Represent Avangrid to external stakeholders—actively participate in relevant trade groups to represent Avangrid to external stakeholders. Develop and deliver professional presentations to trade groups, regulatory oversight bodies, and internal departments. Position Avangrid as a leader in C&LM which includes submission of abstracts and white papers to trade organizations and seeking and serving on leadership positions within trade organization Boards.
Provide technical training and assistance to others, including customers and other internal departments.
Achieve financial and energy savings goals—have personal goals tied to the performance of the C&LM programs for the operating companies the engineer supports.
For Lead Engineers:
Utilize knowledge to assist and guide department colleagues.
Provide technical leadership in complex projects that have a wide impact on the department.
Possess ability to collaborate across departments.
Work independently with little supervision.
Skills and Requirements
Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization)
Practical engineering experience/application- Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g. field experience, standardization "Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.")
Engineering documentation– Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation
Ability to review and approve engineering work done by othersto ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements
Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment– Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements
Functional/Job/Business Specific Competencies:
Above average skills in Microsoft Excel
Experience working with large amounts of data and presenting to groups with varying backgrounds
Proficient in Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
Proficient in technical feasibility and scenario analysis
Excellent communication and relationship building skills
Strong technical writing skills
Experience developing Strategic Energy Management plans for commercial and industrial customers
Ability to travel
Avangrid employees may be assigned a system emergency role and in the event of a system emergency, may be required to work outside of their regular schedule/job duties. This is applicable to employees that will work in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York within AVANGRD Network and Corporate functions. This does not include those that will work for Avangrid Renewables
